Slaughter of the Soul is arguably responsible for the popularity of melodic death metal as well as the existence of many bands both melodeath and of other genres. An unrelenting and violent (for melodic death metal) final release from Gothenburg-based act At the Gates, the album has no filler; each track is as good if not better than the last, the album itself a stunning standard for each metal band to reach.
