I generally prefer track-by-track reviews. They're often more thorough, whereas many standard reviews tend to focus on the high points and the low points and kind of ignore everything in-between, while the individual track ratings still make the highs and lows easily discernible at a glance.
It's not a good approach in a journalistic sense, but for informal purposes I think it's a fine format.
I never do a track by track listing really but sometimes I'll mention each song and the highs and lows but in a paragraph form with other info added in. Just so it doesnt look like a bullet point review.
