Graveyard -- New York, NY -- January 12th, 2012
setlist now complete....Suffice to say, they played pretty all their most memorable songs.
As The Years Pass By The Hours Bend
Ungrateful Are The Dead
Ain't Fit To Live Here
they played for about 70 minutes. only took a minute or so for their "encore break". first band wasn't till 9 and i had a rough week with work and stuff, so i slept from 6:30 or so till 9:45, showered, then drove in and got a spot across the street from Bowery in no time. sadly, I missed Radio Moscow, but i got there right as they were done. I never understand people who MUST have as many beers as possible at shows, and lose their great spot as a result. whatever, better for me.
i got right up front and center. Band went on at 11:05 i think...played till 12:15 . They sounded perfect...every instrument complimented the others and no one overpowered anyone. The solos were a little low sometimes if the band was really rocking out. Joakim Nilsson's voice is no joke. Dude was pitch perfect all night, belting out his screams and wails really well.
They had an older dude on the side of the stage doing the whole 60's/70's throwback lighting effects...moving oil around a bowl over some multi-colored lights, then they projected that on the backdrop, using one of those old projectors teachers would use in school for notes, carbon copies, etc.
Crowd was great. Really into the show, cheering loudly whenever there was a lull or after yet another kick ass solo. Good mix of young & old, trendier people, metalheads and plain-dressed folks. Show was sold out. I see this band playing progressively bigger venues on their next tour, so like the next NYC show would be Webster Hall if Bowery Presents gets it again, then T5 (ugh) after that. I'd be surprised if they didn't do the festival circuit this summer too...easy $ to be made and they're clearly developing a big following.
best part of the show was when their drummer Axel Sj÷berg had a mini drum solo in the middle of a song i don't remember the name of, and then as he ended it, he screamed something really loudly yet inaudible and in their heavy swedish accent into the crowd without a mic, and then the band kicked back in. it was awesome, and the crowd ate it up.
Circa Survive,Title Fight 11/11
