Top 5 E.P.'s Of 2011

5. Adrenalin Mob - Adrenalin Mob

As much as Mike Portnoy is a complete tool, his musical ability is undeniable. When I found out he was in a new band with members of Fozzy and Symphony X, I was apprehensive, as I'm not a huge fan of either band, but this E.P. kicks a fairly decent amount of ass. Very much on a groove/hard rock side of things, this is a more than acceptable set of songs, and provides a very good platform for future releases, this is definitely a project to watch.

Psychosane -

4. Cynic - Carbon Based Anatomy

This is Cynic doing what they do best, and that's make beautiful music that no other band could truly get right the way they do. I'm quite a big fan of Traced In Air, so this really excited me, and it did not disappoint. Unfortunately I had to miss their tour in support of it, but with a new album due next year, this is hardly the last we'll see of Cynic!

3. Cloudkicker - Let Yourself Be Huge

Sweet Jesus how I want this to be higher, but it being an E.P., so I can't give it a spot it would have definitely had in my top 25, and practically just out, I have to be fair and put it where it belongs, and that's behind two releases who have been out longer and thusly have proven themselves when I returned to them for a second evaluation. This is a beautiful piece of music, from start to finish, and is Cloudkicker doing what he does best, and that's surprise you at every turn. This is as close to a musical hug as I have yet encountered, and if you haven't listened to this yet, wait until that last track lands, and you'll understand.

2. Vile Regression - The Pattern Evolves

These guys are one of the brightest stars of the Dublin scene at the moment, and for good reason. This E.P. is a professional slab of technical metal with groove, melody and hooks a-plenty, served on a plate of well thought out rhythms and traditional growled vocals. There's very little else I can say about this other than to please check them out, they deserve it!

Prolong The Decay -

1. Between The Buried And Me - The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues

If you don't know who Between The Buried And Me are, I'm not sure why you're on this site and reading this, but how and ever, they are one of the best prog-metal bands on the go at the moment, and this E.P. does nothing but accentuate that opinion. I'll just tell you to listen to it and see for yourself.

Specular Reflection -
Yesterday don't mean SHIT.
