If that was conventional in 1987 then what was original? I would say that Mayhem was never conventional. Even
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas was mostly (if not completely, I'm not sure to be honest) written by 1991, which was the year the Norwegian scene was only just becoming relevant. And not to mention that by the time they actually did the proper recording of it Atilla's vocals had dissented from the stereotypical ones of the other black metal bands.
