24. SubRosa - No Help For The Mighty Ones
This has proven to be a rather popular record on this board, and rightfully so. This is a quality record, with a distinctive, some would even say unique, twist on the doom metal style. A majority female band, this is equal parts heavy and beautiful, with a mix of violins, sludgey guitar, drum. down-tuned bass and a mix of clean and growled vocals. The songs vary in length from 6 minutes to 13, and at no point feels boring or over/under done, with some beautiful violin led motifs leading straight into sludgey growled sections without missing a beat and feeling completely natural in the music. I'm not a huge doom fan, but this one really stood out to me, and all of the ingredients are there for anyone else to feel the same.
