Yeah, that's right, I skipped GWAR
I wanted to catch Warbeast, even though they're kinda mediocre, just because thrash is always fun live. But my parents wanted to take me to Ted's Montana Grill for some burgers, and I couldn't turn that down. Best burgers ever
Anyways, my brother and I got there just as ETID was about to go on! Five minutes later they ripped into "Bored Stiff," one of my absolute favorites. The crowd was packed, which I expected. I was in the front of the crowd most of the time, and like any ETID show, it was extremely physical. Very crazy and soooo much fun. The Heaven stage of The Masquerade is kind of a shitty venue, which sucks because that's where most of the big-name metal tours go. The sound isn't great and there's so much security. And, like JD will tell you, security at an ETID show is a boner kill. The only way people could get to the stage was by crowd surfing because there was security at the sides of the barrier, but there was also security in the middle so 95% of the surfers didn't even make it to the stage. Including me. JD, what's the proper way to surf again? I flipped over to my back each time I got up in the air but two of the three times people dropped me and I fell on my elbow. After that, the two guys that helped me up (and were helping everybody else up) ignored me when I motioned at them to lift me up.
Also, the last time ETID played at The Masquerade, they played the downstairs stage, which is much smaller with no security. The stage-diving at that show was incessant. Too bad I was a pussy, then. Either way, I had a fucking blast at this show. I was constantly shouting the lyrics in peoples' faces... good times.
[may not be in correct order...I was pretty drunk]
Bored Stiff
Ebolorama
No Son of Mine
She's My Rushmore
The Marvelous Slut
I Been Gone a Long Time
Underwater Bimbos From Outer Space
After One Quarter of a Revolution
Wanderlust
Diablo
We'rewolf
Floater
There's a lot more stuff I would've liked to heard, but for an opening set, this was great! Wasn't expecting to hear After One Quarter of a Revolution
Afterwards I headed downstairs and got a water. I was hot, exhausted, and hungover. I didn't really want to stay for GWAR but we went up to catch a couple of songs. My brother summed it up best: "Their music fucking sucks, but they're entertaining." They were only entertaining as far as the costumes went, though. I forgot my earplugs so I didn't want to go to the front, so I didn't get any blood or cum shot on me.
I was genuinely surprised at how packed the show was, though! I've never been to a GWAR show in Atlanta before, so I dunno if they usually attract such a large crowd. I know they come here at least twice a year, so I was a little taken back. Besides, with all due respect to bloodofthekings, I never really thought that people actually
liked GWAR's music, just their shows
Anyways, I don't regret leaving early. I've heard from people that they come up to Burlington all the time so I'll have other chances.
