Mastodon -- Kansas City, MO -- November 14th, 2011

One band I've seen multiple times that never ceases to constantly amaze me is Mastodon, and tonight was no different. Third time seeing them and definitely the best. It was nice not having to sit through all of Crack the Skye this time, but the two songs they threw in from it were nice. It was really surprising to me how well-received songs from The Hunter were. Everyone was singing along with "Black Tongue" and "Curl Of The Burl" and when they came back after Blood and Thunder (I think for the first time on this date), Dillinger Escape Plan and Red Fang came on stage to help them sing "Creature Lives"! It was crazy. Of course, everyone went super nuts when they hit their back catalogue. "Circle of Cysquatch" still rips live and "Aqua Dementia" and "March of the Fire Ants" are in a league of heaviness of their own. Each band member looked like they were having tons of fun on stage. Every time I see Mastodon, it ends up being one of the best shows of the year. Can't wait to see them next time!

Creature Lives (with Red Fang and Dillinger Escape Plan)

The Dillinger Escape Plan is honestly the craziest live show I've ever seen. Even if you hate the music, just to see them live is a spectacle in of itself. Greg was all over the place, including out in the crowd, and everyone else was jumping off amps or the barrier or hanging from the rafters upside-down playing their instrument. They went over really well with the crowd, which was a relief. They seemed to play for a long time, but I know for sure their set was basically the same it's been all tour long, but they might have added some.

Farewell Mona Lisa
Room Full of Eyes
Milk Lizard
Panasonic Youth
Gold Teeth on a Bum
Horse Hunter
Chinese Whispers
Sunshine the Werewolf
43% Burnt

Opening was Red Fang. It's my 2nd time seeing them this year and they sounded a ton better than before. They are one of the loudest bands I've ever heard, but this time it wasn't so overbearing that it detracted from the music. They honestly should be played on rock radio stations. It's good and it's super catchy stuff. Woo!

Hank Is Dead
Throw Up
Malverde
Wires
Into The eye
Reverse Thunder
Prehistoric Dog

I got a DEP pick. Be jelly.
