Underoath -- Montreal, Quebec -- October 8th, 2011

Venue: La Tulipe
Opening band: This Is Hell

This was a really early show: it started at 6 pm and ended at 9:30 pm, because was an 80's dancing night at 10 pm . At least, the show was great. I was expecting a emo/core-kid/douchebag crowd, but most of the people were ok. As one of my friends said, Underoath deserves some respect for turning their backs on pop-esque emo metalcore and mainstream popularity to make more complex, deep and heavy music.

This Is Hell were good, they sounded like a mix of Slayer and traditional hardcore. Not a lot of people had arrived early enough for their set, but it was fun.

The Chariot was completely crazy. They played on the floor, only the drummer staying on the stage. They were going nuts, throwing themselves around, and so the crowd did. The floor just went into a huge mosh pit. The guitar and bass tones were crushing and the songs were awesome. Possibly the best band of the evening.

Comeback Kid were also great. They had a lot of energy and they made the crowd sing often. The pits were fun and I think the song choice was perfect. In my opinion, they're one of the best hardcore punk bands around.

At last, Underoath played. I didn't have very high expectations, but they tore it up. It sounded a lot better than on CD and the band (except for one of the guitar players) was very charismatic. The sound was perfect, you could hear every subtle element in the music. The lightings and the images on the screen were cool too. I only thought that ending with "A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White" was kind of weak, because their recent stuff is by far better, but the girls in the crowd seemed to like it.
