UneXpect -- Montreal, Quebec -- October 1st, 2011
Venue: Club Soda
Opening band: Unbeing
This was the late album release show of UneXpect's new album "Fables of the Sleepless Empire".
Unbeing were ok, they're an instrumental prog/djent band and they're very talented musicians. However, about five minutes into their set, some idiot who didn't like the band started the fire alarm, which went on for their whole set and made it difficult to be enjoyed. It only stopped when they finished their last song, but then LeÔlindel of UneXpect came on the stage and told them to play another song, and they did.
Kšlter weren't bad also. They're a finnish-styled melodic death metal band from Quebec City. They had a huge stage presence, and I thought they were better than the last time I saw them, because of the better sound quality of the venue.
Then, Neuraxis tore everything up. Like always, they were intense, brutal and really tight. They really got the crowd going. For the song "V", there was a huge wall of death that took the whole length of the venue and then that went right in a big circle pit. It was the most fun set of the night in my opinion.
Finally, UneXpect came in. They delivered a really theatrical performance. They had a background made of old things you would find in an attic, but disposed in a strange way. The lightings created a kind of creepy atmosphere, which was enhanced by the musicians' wierd presences (especially LeÔlindel, who is really fun to watch, because of her moves). The song selection was excellent (I would have liked to hear "Feasting Fools", but like I said for the Priestess set yesterday, I can't complain) and it was an overall fun show, except for the first band.
