Wow, what an epic show. My friend and I walked downtown to meet this kid who I had never met before that was gonna give us a ride to the show. The show was about an hour away in some town outside Montpelier (state capital). After the highway, the roads getting there were pretty tricky, but fortunately none had been destroyed by the hurricane.
So, this show was in a field. I had actually imagined that Wolves were just gonna pick up their instruments in the middle of a field and hammer out some jams. Alas, not completely

They actually did build a nice little stage, which was cool. The trees were right behind it, occasionally swaying in the wind, with the starry night sky above. This particular setting definitely made the show for me, and probably everyone else there.
When we got there it was pretty chilly, so I was wishing I brought a sweatshirt, but not for long. I dunno if this is a WITTR live ritual or whatever, but the guys constructed a mini wooden church in the middle of the field and then lit the thing on fire. OMG SO METAL MAN. KVLT AS FUCK DUDE. Yeah, I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty lame, though funny at the same time. But once the fucker really started to burn, it was quite the sight to behold. Pretty nice spectacular. Later the thing crumbled down into two large bonfires, where the metalheads all gathered around and drank beer

and probably got high too
Anyways, first band was some hardcore band from Portland, Maine. They were solid, just not a great fit for the bill.
Second band was a black metal band from Maine called
Fall of Rauros. At first I thought these guys were WITTR

They had a bit more stoner-ish parts, though, and some nice jammy solos.
Third band was
Thou. Thou was fucking crazy. The first song they did was doomy as hell, but for some reason everyone was moshing and going crazy, and I was holding my WITTR poster in my hand (still can't justify that $20 purchase, but oh well). I asked the merch lady to hold it for me until the end of the show, then I jumped in. It was SOOOO fun in there. However, I had to take a little break because everyone was crowdsurfing and I was to skinny/weak/uncoordinated to support them

I probably dropped 90% of the guys that came to me. Anyway, as Thou's set wore on, I noticed they became a lot more stoner-y than doomy. They even did a Minor Threat cover...but I think they doomed it out because I didn't know what song it was. I did recognize it from somewhere, though.
WITTR finally came on after that. HOLY SHIT. They were so fucking surreal, man. Fog + candles + field + backdrop against trees and night sky = EPIC

If they played in some art gallery, the show wouldn't be nearly as good. I mean, they sounded so surreal live, but then again, it wasn't the best live performance I've ever seen in terms of sound, obviously, but they were mesmerizing all the same.
They played the same set they've been doing this whole tour - I think. I agree with Brad in that "I Will Lay Down My Bones Among The Rocks and Roots" was epic. It was the only song I recognized, which is saying a lot because I've only listened to the song like three times in the past two weeks.
Thuja Magus Imperium
Ahrimanic Trance
I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots
Prayer of Transformation
Anyway, you should see these guys when they come near you, even if it's not in a field
