REVIEW
I would put this concert in at least the top third of the times I have seen Priest / Rob. They really seem to be having fun and engaged in the songs. I think they dig playing a bunch of new songs. Lot of interplay between Rob and Glen... sure seem like they are enjoying things.
I was in the fifth row dead center tonight (with my wife, who was seeing Priest for the second time, but for the first time with Rob). I had a hard time making out Rob's comments, but I THINK he said that they had just come back from Japan and that he had a cold, but he could have just said that the temperature was cold (it was in the 50s). I think he did have a cold because although he sounded great, he did seem to get a little tired at the end and he smiled and help his two hands to his throat a couple of times after songs like he was working hard.
Glen seemed very happy and into it. He actually spent quite a bit of time on the left side (KK's side). I think there was a chick he was working over there. KK was great. He is all business... throwing shadows, slapping hands, rocking out, clapping. There were some great backdrops. There was really big backdrop of the AOR cover which came out during Judas Rising.
Queensryche started at 7:30 and played until about 8:25. Priest came on about 8:55 and played almost exactly two hours. Here are some random comments:
The Hellion/Electric Eye - The opening was the same as Ozzfest.
Metal Gods - The robot walk... same as the AOR DVD.
Riding On The Wind - Great version. Rob was in fine form. Lots of good extra screams. One of my all-time favorites in concert.
A Touch Of Evil - Again, just like AOR DVD and Ozzfest.
Judas Rising - I don't claim to be an expert, but the sound mix sounded bad on this. Rob was elevated above Scott's drums and was singing above what appeared to be a flaming pot or chest. That was the high
Revolution - Rob said "Angel of Retribution... Judas Rising... It's a Revolution." They had white flags on each side of the stage with the AOR logo on it. Rob and Glen waved them.
Breaking The Law - They all kicked it off together like the AOR DVD.
I'm A Rocker - I liked this tune on the Ram It Down tour and it really holds up.
Diamonds And Rust - Good version.
Deal With The Devil - Best new song of the night. They really sounded tight on this one. Rob did not use a teleprompter.
Beyond The Realms Of Death - Great version. Double disco balls. Rob seemed really impassioned after this one. He was breathing very heavily and just looked out into the crowd as he recaptured his breath.
Turbo Lover - The day I got Turbo I complained too about the synths, but this song really holds up. The crowd loved it.
Hellrider - Rob was on the teleprompter the whole time leaning on his mike stand looking down into the floor.
Victim Of Changes - Good version. Rob put his hands around his throat afterwards like he was joking that that was hard on his voice.
Exciter - He looked at Glen and said it had been a "long fucking time" since they had played this song in North America (although the Halford band did a great version)
Painkiller - Sounded a bit strained at the end.
<Encore>
Hell Bent For Leather - Same as AOR DVD. I wish Rob would get off the bike during the song.
Living After Midnight - direct seque from HBFL. Fun, crowd pleasing
You've Got Another Thing Comin' - Rob did his whole "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah." He also added a nice sing-along melody at the end the crowd got into.
Any info on the Queensryche setlist?
