Mastodon -- San Jose, CA -- November 21st, 2009
I know this is the __th Masto-klok thread, but I've included something of a review so bear with me.
High on Fire was as good as or better than I've ever heard. Sound was tight and LOUD. This was the best of the 3 supporting sets I've seen them play.
Blood From Zion
Cometh Down Hessian
Waste of Tiamat
Rumors of War
Converge... what can I say. Not my bag, and they really shouldn't have been on this tour. By the end of the set at least half of the audience was booing. It's sad that they had 45 minutes to play, especially after High on Fire's 30.
Since this was the second time seeing Mastodon do CTS front to back I ended up sitting at the back of the arena where the sound/view was the best. Definitely a good idea, especially since I don't feel like being in the middle of a pit for songs like Oblivion, The Czar and Ghost of Karellia. The video incorporated the album artwork more this time, and the band was only backlit so the focus was on the music and video instead of the band trying to look cool. I made my way to the pit while the Dong slayed with the last few songs.
Crack The Skye
Circle of Cysquatch
Where Strides The Behemoth
I had an idea of what to expect from Dethklok but was pleasantly surprised at how awesome the music and video was. The lighting was so intense that tickets should have come with an epilepsy warning. Gene Hoglan > Opeth
Burn The Earth
Black Fire Upon Us
Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle
Go Into The Water
Moral of the story: absolute awesome show, perfect if you forget about Converge.
