Sepultura -- Columbus, OH -- December 1st, 2006

I don't really feel like doing this as any sort of a big review, so here's what you're getting. I got the chance to see Sepultura on their first U.S. headline tour supporting the new album, DANTE XXI. They had three bands as support for the tour, and three more local Columbus bands played as well. This was the show's downfall. I stood on my feet in the front row of a tiny venue for seven and a half hours in all, and only the last hour and a half were a band I was remotely familiar with and enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, it was worth staying the whole time to see Sepultura, they fucking ruled. But goddammit, why did we need, in order, Every Intention, Blackened Dawn, X-Factor 1, Suicide Silence, Diecast, and Sworn Enemy? Sworn Enemy surprised me and were pretty good, but the rest were the sonic equivalent of mental retardation.

Every Intention played chugga chugga hardcore and covered "Over the Edge" by Hatebreed.

Blackened Dawn sounded exactly like Demiricous and covered "Seasons in the Abyss" by Slayer (poorly)

X-Factor 1 played screamo. Uggggggh.

Suicide Silence played entertaining grindcore broken up with Family Guy samplings.

Diecast played metalcore and had a setlist:

1. Rise and Oppose
2. Never Forget
3. Fade Away
4. Fire/Damage
5. Fractured
6. Singled Out
7. Come
8. Raining Blood (Slayer cover)
9. Mouth for War (Pantera cover)

Sworn Enemy played pretty good hardcore with entertaining shout-along gang vocals.

Sepultura made the night worthwhile and played a setlist different from any I've seen on this tour, and a great one at that:

1. Dark Wood of Error
2. Refuse/Resist
3. Convicted In Life
4. False
5. Dead Embryonic Cells
6. Slave New World
7. Ostia
8. Crown and Miter
9. Sepulnation
10. Biotech Is Godzilla
11. Choke
12. Spit
13. Buried Words
14. Troops of Doom
15. Beneath the Remains
16. Territory
17. Arise
18. Necromancer
19. Come Back Alive
20. Roots Bloody Roots

Fun facts:
- Alrosa Villa has no rail, so, being in the front row, we leaned on the stage.
- Andreas Kisser of Sepultura personally handed me a pick and he didn't throw any the whole night. I guess I was screaming along loud enough
- I'll have two pictures for you tomorrow.
- Neither of them had Dimebag's ghost in them.
Mortals are mortar and life is the fuse.
