Review - Alive in Athens DVD

Alive in Athens is Iced Earth's second dvd and first live concert dvd, and man did they pick a great cocnert to put out on film. The Alive in Athens dvd showcases the best period for the band, they had a good amount of releases, Matt Barlow on vocals, and a fanbase worldwide. For those of you who haven't heard the Alive in Athens live CD you're in for a treat! This dvd features 28 live songs that showcase the best of each album.

DVD high points: Dante's Inferno, Stormrider (JON SANG STORMRIDER!!), Travel in Stygian. These songs were done infinitly better then the studio releases. The DVD also has some bonus feature, a small clip of Jon in Athens, and some backstage footage right before the show.

The DVD footage was only shot from three different cameras so the angles aren't very varied, but they did a pretty good job with it. The strobe lights effect the cameras a bit, but thats only during two songs. The audio for the most part is taken right from the CD set and overlayed, so in some points the sound doesn't quite match up, but it's hardly noticable and is only in a few spots. Overall it's a pretty good DVD, I guess Jon was just embarassed to be releasing a product that wasn't 100% quality with his band name plastered on it.

These are the burning times....THE YEARS OF PAIN!!

Imagine a place... where every horror comes to life...

I see the sadness in their eyes, melancholy in their cries...

Fight on! Grab on! Stormrider, Stormrider...

Spidey! (this dude's returning to the band for their next album!!)

Overall: 8/10, could have some improvments but this was an epic concert and definatley should be seen by any Iced Earth fan.
