Maya Angelou and Lord Byron are hacks. Don't waste your time with them. Coleridge and Milton are much more worthwhile, as poets go. If you really want the best poetry available by the English Romantics, however, I'd have to suggest Shelley. If you want outstanding poetry by an African-American female, check out Gwendolyn Brooks or Thylias Moss, both of whom are motherfucking [I]awesome[/I].
