Rush -- Hershey, PA -- June 21st, 2013
Drove 80 miles, the day after my second chemo treatment, to see one of my favorite bands of all time, RUSH! And what a show! Split into two sections, the first half was mostly the 80's, keyboard-driven Rush material and the second half was the Clockwork Angels section with a 7 person string ensemble backing them up. For me it was a perfect show, but the people around me seemed bored until the band played a "hit" or two. And the "hits" were not frequent.
The band sounded great and of course Neil's two solos were a huge highlight. My favorite song of the night had to be "The Anarchist" from the Clockwork Angels record. The string section just really brought a whole new dimension to the Clockwork Angels material, as well as the older tunes they played on. It was kinda odd to see other people on the stage besides Geddy, Alex and Neil but it sounded fantastic.
Great, great show! Don't miss this show if it plays anywhere near you. Here's the set:
2. The Big Money
3. Force Ten
4. Grand Designs
7. The Analog Kid
9. Where's My Thing (drum solo)
10. Far Cry
Set Two (With Clockwork Angels String Ensemble)
12. Clockwork Angels
13. The Anarchist
15. The Wreckers
16. Headlong Flight
17. Halo Effect
18. Seven Cities Of Gold
19. The Garden
20. Manhattan Project
21. Drum Solo

25. Tom Sawyer
26. 2112 (Overture, The Temples Of Syrinx, Grand Finale)
I bought my ticket to the show on Thursday. Normally I would not have considered driving all the way out to Hershey, but I didn't have any other plans this weekend, and I really wanted to see this tour (having missed the other stops near me). And I'm definitely glad I went! It was my third time seeing Rush, yet 17 out of the 26 songs they played I had not seen live before! More bands need to vary their setlists like this!
My pictures from the show:
Cool pic's, I might go see em in Vancouver next month.
I wish I could see them again this summer.
saw them in London and Amsterdam last month and they kicked it!!
I have tickets for Calgary Canada in about 4.5 weeks but the venue is flooded and who knows if the show will go on?
jesus those floods reached the heart of Calgary? im sorry man thats terrible. I got rocked by Irene AND Sandy here in Jersey City so i can understand what these people are going through. Of course the coverage here in the US is shitty about this event.
I agree about the pics...very nice.
