Katatonia -- Montreal, Quebec -- April 25th, 2013

Venue: Petit Campus
Opening band: Demise of the Crown
Tour: North American Heritage Tour 2013 (Off-Date)

As I've said before, no review this time, I have to concentrate on my final exams. Local openers Demise of the Crown were boring as hell; ordinary Dream Theater-influenced power/prog metal with lame riffs and song structures, a guitarist that abused his auto-wah pedal and a bad singer. On the opposite, Katatonia were absolutely fantastic as always, except the sound was a bit blurry for the first few songs. It was fun to see them in such an intimate, small venue, but I still think they have more impact in bigger places. Anyway, Katatonia shows are always treats for me.

My favorite parts of your reviews are your reviews of the local bands :P

Katatonia played Without God and Murder when opening for Opeth here in Vancouver, the first time around.

Jonas mentioned they usually reserve that for Off-Dates. I am sad to see they didnt perform either here.

They played Without God and Brave when I saw them in 2011 with Anders on vocals, it was absolutely beautiful.

Just look at that set: http://www.metalsetlists.com/showthread.php?t=18049&highlight=katatonia+montreal (it actually was Murder, not Brave).

I seriously doubt Katatonia will ever top this performance.

Fucking 'Strained' again! Katatonia are fucking with me, I'm convinced of it. They know it's my favorite song they ever did, so they're going to save it for shows I have no chance of seeing. This setlist is so damn good, it makes me mad.
