Opeth -- Buffalo, NY -- April 18th, 2013
Just got back from the beautiful city of Buffalo where Opeth played the first show of their North American 2013 tour at the Town Ballroom.
Doors opened at 7PM. There was a bit of a delay and the doors to the actual stage area opened around 7:30PM.
First up was Katatonia. I don't know anything about them but I was able to read the setlist that was on the stage.
2 Day and the Shade
3 My Twin
4 Burn the Remembrance
6 Racing Heart
8 Longest Year
15 Dead Letters
It's possible I read the numbers wrong but it did look like the songs were numbered that way. Up next was Opeth. I am more of a casual fan so I don't know all their songs but I still was able to read the setlist.
The cluster of white pages are lyrics.
1 The Devil's Orchard
2 Ghost of Perdition
3 White Cluster
4 Hope Leaves
7 Hessian Peel
9 Demon of the Fall (acoustic)
10 Harlequin Forest
11 Blackwater Park
Sorry. Here's a collection of Mikael stage banter to make up for that:
"We played Buffalo a few times. I don't know much about Buffalo except that it's located in the beautiful state of California"
"There's a good band called Buffalo but they're from Australia"
"Mendez plays slap bass like Flea. Anyone like the Red Hot Chili Peppers here? Get out."
*after introducing other band members* "My name is Lars. It really is, it's Lars Mikael. Like Lars Ulrich." *crowd boos* "What? He's Scandinavian! It's James you gotta worry about!"
Has Mikael always had the lyrics on the stage? I never noticed it before.

The last two tours he has, but only for a song or two.
Merch/prices for Opeth?
Good enough for me. Atonement...fuck yeah!
I hope they play a different set list Saturday at NEMHF.
Nice set. Looks like I need to go to Oklahoma for this one...
Pretty good set, not sure if I am a fan of acoustic Demon of the Fall though.
Sadly they are playing the same night as Suffocation here so I will have to miss them this tour.
Awesome. So stoked to see both of them tomorrow at Metalfest. It's gonna be ridiculous.
Teh troo metalcrowd booing at teh mentiun of Larz lulz.
