Anthrax -- Detroit, MI -- April 6th, 2013

Well, it seems like the winter weather is finally over for us. Might as well celebrate with an Anthrax show!

We got inside the Fillmore about 15 minutes after doors, and it felt pretty empty. Maybe a few hundred people there at the most? Then again there was a Tigers game going on literally across the street. Luckily it filled up gradually throughout the night. Holy Grail started shortly after we entered the venue, and they were a great start to the night. Even though the venue had hardly any people they played like they were in front of a packed stadium. Second time seeing them, and they never disappoint. Make sure you catch them!

Setlist:
Dark Passenger
Bleeding Stone
Ride the Void
Crosswinds
My Last Attack
Fight to Kill

Municipal Waste were next and I was excited. Even though they tour a good amount, it felt like a very long time since they were in Michigan. Right when the ripped into Unleash the Bastards, a huge pit formed and we were blasted for a good half hour of thrash goodness. They're a very fun band with some pretty funny banter. Can't wait to see them again.

Setlist:
Intro
Unleash the Bastards
The Thrashin' of the Christ
Sadistic Magician
You're Cut Off
Beer Pressure
Thrashing's My Business... And Business Is Good
Headbanger Face Rip
Mind Eraser
The Art of Partying

High on Fire were the next band. They were heavy but I'm not a fan personally.

Setlist:
Rumors of War
Frost Hammer
Fertile Green
Madness of an Architect
Snakes for the Divine

Honestly, going into the show I wasn't expecting a whole lot from Exodus but holy crap was I wrong. They were awesome! They gave a very energetic performance and the crowd definitely fed off that. They called for a wall of death for Strike of the Beast and it looked like it hurt a lot for whoever was in it. I might even go as far as to say they stole the show...

Setlist:
The Ballad of Leonard and Charles
A Lesson in Violence
War Is My Shepherd
Piranha
Blacklist
Bonded by Blood
The Toxic Waltz
Strike of the Beast
Good Riddance

So, as most of you know, Anthrax was playing "Among the Living" in its entirety. The album definitely translates well live. They put on a great show, Frank Bello looks like a madman on stage. Not to mention it was fun doing the wardance for Indians. Overall, a great show, and if this is coming near you, by all means, GO.

Setlist:
Among the Living
Caught in a Mosh
I Am the Law
Efilnikufesin (N.F.L.)
A Skeleton in the Closet
In the End
T.N.T. (AC/DC cover)
March of the S.O.D. (S.O.D. cover)
I'm Alive
Indians
One World
A.D.I./Horror of it All
Got the Time (Joe Jackson cover)
-
Imitation of Life
I'm the Man
Antisocial (Trust cover)

Oh, and random note, when we were walking to the Fillmore we passed by some guys (not sure if they were scalpers or wanting tickets) and heard this conversation:

One of the guys in the group: Anybody got tickets to the show? C'mon it's Anthrax, you gotta get fucked up tonight!
Random guy walking behind us: But I have church tomorrow.
One of the guys in the group: Yeah, you can go to church, but you still gotta get fucked up tonight!

They did Got the Time instead of Imitation of Life? That sucks.

Reading is fundamental.

Oh. Derp. Didn't even look at the encore.

Saw the show last night (4/13) in Charlotte. Saturday night - the place was packed.
I only got there in time for Exodus and Anthrax. I tried to get there for Municipal Waste but parking was brutal.
Before Anthrax's set Charlie, Frankie and Joey walk on stage. I knew right away that they were going to say Scott wasn't going to be at the show. Bummer. Whoever their other guitarist is though played pretty well and definitely held his own. Frankie was crazy energetic through the whole show.
It was funny how Rob from Exodus tries to get the crowd going by pretty much saying "You guys suck!! Are you tired already??", while Joey is a complete nice guy - "You guys are awesome! Thanks for coming out!".

Exodus dropped Good Riddance from their set.
Anthrax set - we did not get the SOD tune. We got Madhouse instead of Imitation of Life
It was great to hear the "deep cuts" (Joey's words) from Among the Living, especially A.D.I./Horror of it All :rocker:

I would much rather hear March of the S.O.D. and Imitation of Life rather than Madhouse any day.

Funnily enough, it felt like the opposite at my date. Rob was saying stuff like "You guys rule!", meanwhile after the second chorus for Indians, Anthrax stopped because "Charlie didn't think we were having enough fun."

And I have to agree with thedeathmetaler, I think you guys got gypped with no S.O.D. or Imitation.

Force10 04-14-2013 11:29 AM

Well we got gypped with no Scott. But shit happens (literally in this case).

A comment on setlist.fm said that they couldn't pull of IoL without Scott. Not sure it that's true, but it could be. Probably the same with SOD.
I like Madhouse, so was glad to hear it.
Also, I'm Alive was not played last night.

All in all a decent night - the sound wasn't too bad - which is as good as you can expect in that old gutted warehouse where we were at.

I had never seen Exodus before, so I got to cross one more band off my list.

Looked at their forum - Orlando likely had the same set 2 nights ago (without Scott) as we in Charlotte had...

Damn, dude I would have been pissed to be at your show. I don't care about the SOD cover but no Scott, Imitation of Life, or I'm Alive? I get that Scott is sick and that's unavoidable but dropping those songs is lame. I wanted to go today but I will feel a little better about it if the Maryland show has all those songs dropped as well.
