A packed show at Empire, went with buncha friends, part II of a 4 day concert gauntlet (Testament, Lindsey Stirling (should I post that review?) , Hatbreed, Hanzel Und Gretyl)- seemed close to sell out, so like over 300 people there is probably a good estimate (~500 capacity If I recall correctly).
Dying Fetus sounded pretty good, nice groove to them. Some intense pits for them. I shoulda gotten a CD. Unintelligible vocals, but very heavy.
Shadows Fall was on next and the floor lightened a LOT. They sounded muddy, but after a few songs they sounded better. They played about the same setlist they did supporting Killswitch this past December in Baltimore. They had some guy from.... some other band cause their one guitarist was filling in for Anthrax. They sounded very good, though something was missing. Maybe it was the setlist, or that the guitars needed to be louder. OK pits for them.
Hatebreed was great- the vocals were surprisingly clear. They played a buncha new stuff and some other songs I'd not heard live before. Solid 1 hr setlist (I coulda used some more...). pretty crazy pits and rowdy people for them, as expected. Lots of crowd shouting along and fists pumping. Some headbanging. Highlight was Jamie talking about how the new album was selling well, on the Billboard charts or something, now his mum doesn't think he is "a scumbag."
People seemed there mainly for Hatebreed and didn't seem that supportive of the more complex (compared to Hatebreed's pedestrian guitar) guitar licks that Shadows Fall brought. There were the hardcore/karate kids in the pit at some points, ruining it for everyone. There was one guy in red doing what looked to me like part of the Pee Wee Tequila dance from Pee Wee's big adventure. I don't have any words for that.
Bonus Valentines: Parents of the year brought their 2 or 3 yr old in to this show, and various notes about that in the full review above. stay classy.
TLDR; great show, despite um...frustrated... people and testosterone levels skyrocketing
