Interesting setlist from Clutch. This was the last show of their three year touring cycle. Neil said they were going to record the new album now. A few nice surprises from Robot Hive/Exodus, but nothing from the self-titled album .
Overall a great show but I'm kind of annoyed that Clutch shows are turning into metal shows. They used to be so fun and chill and now major (bordering on Slayer) pits are going on throughout the entire set. The last two times I have seen Clutch, people are moshing like Raining Blood is being played. A lot of dickheads on the floor last night. Dudes who just want to fight and knock people unconscious really piss me off. Me and my buddy ended up moving to the back of the sold out crowd to get away from it. Sure we couldn't see the band as well, but it was better than being pummelled by assholes all night.
But I digress...Clutch was fantastic. Opening with The Mob Goes Wild really set things off. I liked the chill encore too. Monster Truck and Lionize opened up and put on fun performances.
I now eagerly await the new album! :D
I hate you. :bouville:
I wanted to attend this show so badly, but my family situation at home right now doesn't allow much freedom for shows nowadays (not that I'm complaining). That said, my disappointment isn't half as deep as I thought it might be. A setlist I looked at from just a few shows ago had not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six but a whopping SEVEN tracks from the self-titled album...this show had zero. Wow. That's a drastic difference.
On the bright side, I've seen most of these songs performed before (all but about four, I think). The one that stands out that I really would've liked to see is "Subtle Hustle", and maybe "Abraham Lincoln".
Still, I would've liked to be there. Glad you enjoyed yourself, in spite of the dickheads.
Speaking of which, I have noticed two things: (1) the demographic of folks who attend Clutch shows has changed over the years, and there are a lot more assholes in the crowd than there used to be (like you said), and (2) people in general just don't seem to know how (and when) the fuck to mosh properly anymore.
Moshing started out years ago as a fun thing to do, and it was simply an expression of the sheer joy of being at the show. Now it just seems like it's an ego-stroking bro thing half the time. It's like it's a pre-pubescent version of "king of the hill", only without the fucking hill. These idiots also seem to want to mosh at the most inappropriate times, too. For example, I saw some drunk 6'-6" 350-pound Neanderthal at an Isis show in Cleveland a few years ago throwing his friends into crowd members who clearly didn't want to have anything to do with moshing. At an Isis show. Isis. I wanted to fucking punch the guy, but I was taping the set, so I didn't. Lucky for me, because I probably would have ended up being kicked out of what turned out to be the last time I'd ever get to see Isis.
Yeah, I was at that Isis show. That asshole is the one who kept making people fall on the stage, causing people to hit the band's switches, cords, pedals, etc. and pissing the band off to where they left in the middle of "The Tower" encore. I hate people sometimes...
Who did the organ in 10001110101?

The keyboardist from Lionize. He also played during Motherless Child
Clutch shows are beginning to attract more dumb ass mosh pits. I don't understand why. Troubling trend.
Wanna see Subtle Hustle badly. Probably only one I haven't seen minus the accoustic number at the end. Im so ready for a new Clutch album. Feels like its been forever since Strange Cousins came out.
Fucking Clutch playing awesome setlists. When will they return to CA!?
I've seen them twice since last Winter and both times I was on the rail so I can't say I noticed any pits. It wasn't that rough from up there though.
The two new songs are Crucial Velocity and Earth Rocker, respectively.
