Metallica -- Mexico City, Mexico -- July 28th, 2012

1. Creeping Death
2. For Whom the Bell Tolls
3. Fuel
4. Ride the Lightning
5. One
6. Cyanide
7. The Memory Remains
8. Wherever I May Roam
9. Sad But True
10. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
11. ...And Justice for All
12. Fade to Black
13. Master of Puppets
14. Battery
15. Nothing Else Matters
16. Enter Sandman
Encore
17. Die, Die My Darling
18. Seek & Destroy

While the setlist itself isn't much to write home about, the stage setup was:
Words can not describe the huge roar heard inside the Palacio de los Deportes when Metallica took the stage for the first time in front of this sold out crowd. And the die chant for the first song of Creep was deafening! Then it was onto Bellz, and Fuel. Old school was next with a little Ride The Lightning with an electric chair that came down from the rafters, along with some tesla coils that shot electricity to the chair!!! One is on right now, (with and all new "war" intro) and cyanide is up next!

Sanitarium just started here in Mexico City. But it's weird, there's guys in blue jump suits on stage.... looks like they are building something.... hmmmmmm Before Sani, we had Cyanide (with some people trapped in the coffins!) Memory, Roam, and Sad..... can you guess what's next?

During Sanitarium, the men in blue jumpsuits started to build Doris. Half way thru the next song, ...and Justice For All, she was complete. She stood tall and mighty, until the end of the song, where she came crashing down..... Fade is on now, with Puppetz on deck!
Sounds awesome and all but I hope all this stage stuff doesn't distract from the music

7 more nights to go; I smell Frayed finally coming out....

Robert 07-28-2012 09:01 PM

Sounds like Metallica du Soleil !!!
Are they auditioning to do the next olympic opening ceremony! LOL:finger:

DisposableJustice 07-28-2012 09:03 PM
What an amazing first show with the new mind blowing stage. During Puppetz, lighted crosses came up from the stage, Battery saw pyro and coffins, then we had Nothing. Enter Sandman was up next, and that's when shit really hit the fan! Loud bangs, random fireworks, falling towers, falling spot light guy, falling scaffolding, guy was caught on fire.... then a complete black out. After a few mins, some things were still working, so the crew brought up some work lights, amps and speakers, and the band played on with Die, Die My Darling. Seek was the final song of the night, with beach balls falling from the ceiling, and the infamous Metal Up You Ass toilet came down at the end os the show. Full setlist is up, pics to com
so, Cunning Stunts Pt 2?

And yes I know the format is not right with "MX" I have been working on my live music collection and the format got stuck in my head

WOLVERINEKILLS 07-28-2012 10:00 PM

With the $ Metallica earns all of their shows should be top notch like this one.

This setlist is actually pretty legit.

TonyD 07-28-2012 11:36 PM

Yeah the fact that they're cutting Death Magnetic down to one song and they're actually playing everything you'd want to hear if you were only seeing them one night is cool. And the footage of the roadie on fire looks very staged... cunning stunts.

mankvill 07-28-2012 11:40 PM

last year, someone posted on r/metal a picture of Doris from one of their friends who is a stagehand for them. awesome!

mankvill 07-28-2012 11:41 PM
Yeah the fact that they're cutting Death Magnetic down to one song
One of the worst songs on the record :P

TonyD 07-28-2012 11:42 PM

I don't really like any of it so it doesn't make much of a difference to me haha

brutal_descent 07-29-2012 12:56 AM

How long would this have been? Two hours?

RampinUp46 07-29-2012 06:44 AM
This setlist is actually pretty legit.
Yeah, I don't think they've been playing "...And Justice for All" since the 80's. That song alone would make me want to go to their next US tour.

Looks like they've been playing it occasionally for a while now.

The album has been out for nearly four years. I think the actual "Death Magnetic" tour ended a while ago.

bigguytoo9 07-29-2012 09:43 AM

SWEET!!!! I have a ticket to see this Full Arsenal show in Vancouver. Should be epic by the sounds of it. Ive waited 3 times to see them do Fade To Black as well. I hope it's in the set still.

Christen 07-29-2012 11:31 AM

I'm seeing them in Edmonton in a few weeks. Man I can't wait to see this.

TonyD 07-29-2012 01:02 PM
The album has been out for nearly four years. I think the actual "Death Magnetic" tour ended a while ago.
Yeah but it seems like they've still been playing 2-3 songs at most of the shows, other than the Black/Ride ones.

DisposableJustice 07-29-2012 01:21 PM

They have been playing it off and on since 2007, before that it wasn't played in full since 1989; I don't count the Justice Medley

Don't get me wrong this is a great setlist, I just think Justice is the only standout, the rest are songs that have been frequent over the past 8 years or so

The_jman 07-30-2012 10:19 AM

I'll probably piss some people off but I'm pretty sure in my opinion Justice is the song on the set I don't care for. I'm not a big cyanide fan either.

A cool fan video of some of the new effects; Pretty awesome and I hope that they consider doing this for their next full scale NA tour;)

DisposableJustice 07-30-2012 09:05 PM

so I was going to post tonight's show in a new topic, but then I realized its the exact same set, save Breadfan instead of Die, Die My Darling in the Encore:

July 30, 2012
http://www.metallica.com/tour/jul-30-2012-mexico-city.asp

1. Creeping Death
2. For Whom the Bell Tolls
3. Fuel
4. Ride the Lightning
5. One
6. Cyanide
7. The Memory Remains
8. Wherever I May Roam
9. Sad But True
10. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
11. ...And Justice for All
12. Fade to Black
13. Master of Puppets
14. Battery
15. Nothing Else Matters
16. Enter Sandman
Encore
17. Breadfan
18. Seek & Destroy

So this means that the new stage production might be limiting how much they change the setlist; but they have 6 more shows to go in Mexico City they would have to change it up somewhere right?

rjturtle9 07-30-2012 09:50 PM

I really want to see video of this!

I've heard Fade To Black four out of the six times i've seen them live:D

The first few times I saw them they weren't rotating the sets and Fade was played all the time. I'm still waiting to hear RTL and Justice though.

This is a really nice set, I love Wolf but I love more Last Caress, I am going to tonight´s show, unfortunately I do not think they will play again Last Caress :tp: as they are rotated the first encore song (Am I evil? would be awesome), anyway I am excited, I was in two nights in '93 when they played 5 sold out concerts at the same venueu, in one of them I was in 3rd row, my god they were one of the best ever concerts I have been, will post some comments tonight or tomorrow.
