20. Ghast - May The Curse Bind (Todestrieb Records, 2008) Until this album I had never heard of a Black Metal band fusing the genre so well with Doom Metal. Ghast's debut for the most part is mid tempo old school black metal inter-sped with doomy riffs that are heavier and slower than hell. Sometimes adding in a fast paced section to spice it up as in one of the albums clear highlights "Give Your Wrists". Give Your Wrists |
Well now I have another album to listen to per your recommendation.

You will dig that release I'm pretty sure, this next release is right up your alley too. 19. Ved Buens Ende - Written In Waters (Misanthropy Records, 1995) Ved Buens Ende is probably one of the strangest bands in Black Metal you could come across. There form of the genre draws from progressive rock and avant-garde influences. They only have one release under their belts but its a total monster. That if you give the time to let it sink under your skin will have you hooked with drummer Czarl's quirky jazzy fills and unmistakable croon. Along with the dissonant riffing and fretless bass playing that it supports. Carrier of Wounds (If you dig this please check out Czarl's other band "Virus" its basically a continuation of this band but more rock than metal) |

18. Horna - Aania Yosa (Debemur Morti Productions, 2006) Best Black Metal band to ever come out of Finland in my opinion. Horna's discography is an extremely prolific one full of great Black Metal releases. Topped off I believe by this album, a concept record about the Black Death. It's full of dense and atmospheric second wave black metal played to absolute perfection. Mustan Surman Rukos |
Haven't heard any of these. I'm bad at black metal.
time to add more shit to my 'eventually' list |

time to add more shit to my 'eventually' list
Nice, when you can check out most of this stuff. A lot of it like Ved Buens Ende is pretty accessible for Black Metal. 17. Ludicra - Hollow Psalms (Life Is Abuse, 2002) Ludicra was the greatest Progressive Black Metal band next to the mighty Enslaved. They're brand of metal was nearly unmatched mixing Black Metal, Crust, and Progressive Metal. While their last album was certainly their best, their debut will always be my favorite. They never matched it's ferocity and overwhelming aggression, while still having a huge prog influcence. Every song is amazing but my favorite would be "Heaped Upon Impassive Floors". Cobbett and Cathers's lead and rhythm work is amazing, and Shannaman's vocals are demonic in nature. Heaped Upon Impassive Floors |
No one else like my list so far?

I've been reading it. I just know very little about Black Metal, so I have no basis for an opinion. I look forward to the rest of it.
