x-voltage end of year review
First I'm going to list my top 5 albums of the year. These are albums that I bought and bands that I enjoy listening to, so I won't include albums I haven't heard.
5. Lazarus AD- Black Rivers Flow
I think these guys deserve more attention than they get. Their first release was solid and was a great example of modern thrash. Their second release, Black Rivers Flow, showed growth by the band by straying away, a little, from the thrash sound and incorporating clean guitars and clean vocals. Dan Gapen is a talented lead player as well and has some killer solos.
The Ultimate Sacrifice
Black Rivers Flow
Through Your Eyes
4. Times of Grace- The Hymn of a Broken Man
I have been disappointed by Killswitch's last few albums but Adam D. redeems himself with this album. He wrote and recorded all of the music for this release. If you're looking for an album similar to Alive or Just Breathing (a masterpiece in my opinion) you kind of get it here. Jesse Leach (the singer from Alive or Just Breathing) reunites with Adam. I think Jesse has one of the best voices in metal, and one of the most diverse. This albums has its fair share of heavy moments like Killswtich, but also has several acoustic and clean parts where Jesse's voice really shines. Adam also does a fair share of singing, and while I never liked his singing on past Killswitch albums, he does a good job here.
Strength in Numbers
Live in Love
Hymn of a Broken Man
The End of Eternity
Saw TOG at NEMHF. Don't really dig them or KSE, but I thought they were pretty solid live.
