JD's top 10 HARDCORE releases of 2011 :urmoshing:

Looking back at 2011, I realized that probably 85% of what I listened to - across all genres - was hardcore. I really learned to love this genre this year, a lot more so than metal. Some fucking excellent albums came out, and I won't be able to do all of them justice, but I'm gonna listen my personal top 10 releases. I'm pretty sure I've listened to all the heavy hitters and a lot of the smaller stuff, but you never know what little bands are out there in hardcore, putting out killer 7"'s that go right under your nose.

If you aren't a hardcore fan, I really, REALLY encourage you to check out the albums I'm gonna list. This list means a lot more to me this year than what my "best metal of 2011" is gonna be for the official thread, when it comes around. So thanks for reading my list (as always), and enjoy the countdown! I think it'll get a little better reception than my favorite deathcore albums list.

To kick it off...

10. BACKTRACK - DARKER HALF

Being their first full length LP, Darker Half is a crushing dose of the "new wave" of New York Hardcore, a cool little scene that's been popping up the last couple years. They play some great mid-paced hardcore, not too face but not too breakdown heavy either. Overall, it's a solid debut, with each track consistently following the same great formula. My only downside is that a lot of it sounds similar and the songs tend to blend together, but none of it is really "bad" per se. Backtrack have potential to be killer; can't wait to see where they go. In the meantime... hoping they'll be opening on some more great hardcore tours this year.

"I'm probably the worst fuck you ever had" are some of the worst lyrics in existence!

No, dude. I don't really know how to classify Emmure now; nu-nu metal? I dig Speaker of the Dead hard, but it ain't deathcore and it ain't hardcore (kind of like Winds of Plague's new album, which I back hard, but that discussion belongs somewhere else). This thread isn't gonna have any of that.

Great start! :fist:

They play all the time around me and I need to get around to seeing them already!

 Some of my friends and I turn that into a meme. Like we just say it out of nowhere or just to mess with one another.

Example:

"Yeah, he just texted me about tonight."

"What did he say?"

"He said I'm probably the WAASFPFUAH GAHGPOASH AFASDFA SAHAPDAFA GAHASDHAFPAUDAAA"

Damn, get on that man! I was sick with a kidney stone, or I would have seen 'em with Trapped Under Ice. Lucky you got the New York scene real close to you. Chicago's also got a great, harder-edged underground scene that I'm just discovering... but you'll get more on that later. ;)

9. TAKE OFFENSE - TABLES WILL TURN

Another first full length, Take Offense whip up a really good crossover album that both metalheads and hardcore guys can enjoy. It's one of the few hardcore albums I've heard this year with great guitar solos, also. Although their vocalist isn't really my favorite, the band as a whole is great, consistently writing awesome headbang-worthy riffs. Really solid live, also. Thrash nerds and metal guys: give this one a shot.
