October 2011 Horror Movie Marathon

I was reading the blog Badass Digest yesterday and got an idea from an article there. One of their contributors has been watching at least one horror movie a day since February 16th, 2007. I figured even though itís already 6 days into October I will finish out the month of Halloween watching a horror flick each day. All the movies I will be posting will be available to view on Nexflix streaming (in the US anyway). Some of these movies will be good, some will be crap; but if you like horror then Iím sure Iíll come across some things youíll enjoy. If the fact that itís horror movies doesnít tie it to metal enough I am also going to pick a metal song that resonates with the film in some way. So, without further adoÖ..

This ‘94 John Carpenter film stars Sam Neil as an investigator of sorts searching for a missing author. The story is loosely adapted from a couple HP Lovecraft stories, and as far as an adaptation of Lovecraft to film it is actually rather successful. The missing scribe in question is a mega-popular horror author whose obsessive fans across the country are beginning to go mad with anticipation of his upcoming novel. In comes the skeptical Sam Neil, hired by the publishing company, to find the lost novelist. Sanity and reality melt away upon his ensuing journey. This is a well-done Carpenter film that doesn’t just drag on like some of his flicks do.

Both the Metallica song 'The Thing That Should Not Be' as well as 'In The Mouth Of Madness' draw on HP Lovecraft’s story ‘Shadow Over Innsmouth’ for inspiration. As Sam Neil’s character is ‘drained of his sanity’ he learns he must ‘face the thing that should not be’.

Right on man, I'll be checking out this thread regularly.

I've never seen this movie but I'm a big fan of Carpenter and Lovecraft, so I'll be checking it out soon.

"The Thing That Should Not Be" has always been one of my favorite 'Tallica songs just because of the Lovecraft influence :fist:

I'm definitely gonna follow this. I'll watch the above later tonight while I'm doing homework.

The local movie theater near my dorm is showing a bunch of Hitchcock films this month. Tonight is The Birds at midnight. Would anyone recommend it?

Just got my new router hooked up and logged into Netflix/XBL for the first time in about a week... looks like Netflix got a pretty decent haul for October.
