Enslaved -- Montreal, Quebec -- September 29th, 2011
Venue: Café Campus
Opening band: Junius
I was really looking forward to this concert and it did not dissapoint! I didn't know Junius, and they were a pleasent surprise. They have a kind of original approach on post-rock, mixing soft vocals and post-rock melodies with super-heavy riffs. It sounded great live!
Then, Alcest came in. I was waiting for them to play in Montreal for a long time and I had huge expectations. At the beginning they had sound problems (one guitar being far too loud, some feedback and problems with Neige's microphone) and "Le Secret" didn't sound that good, but afterwards these problems were all fixed and the sound was perfect. "Écailles de lune" was moving, but the best moment was "Percées de lumière", because of Neige's vocals that were incredibly powerful.
At last, Enslaved played one of the best sets I have seen so far. They were a lot better than when I saw the with Opeth in 2009. Grutle is an amazing frontman; he was always playing with the crowd, making us scream québécois swearing words ("Tabarnak de calice de sacrament!" :D). The whole band had a very good stage presence. The best songs in my opinion were "Fusion of Sense and Earth" and the two old-school songs they played before the encore, with everyone going crazy in the pit! Also, the Led Zeppelin cover was cool, because it sounded like an Enslaved song. I wish they recorded it sometime. Overall great show!
