Def Leppard -- Darien Center, NY -- August 21st, 2011
HEART:
Rock and Roll Magic Man Heartless Straight On What About Love These Dreams Alone WTF Crazy On You Barracuda Encore: The Battle of Evermore Love, Reign O'er Me This was my first time seeing Heart and they sounded really good. Ann's voice still has a lot of power in it. She must not be a smoker like Joe Elliot;) Nancy did a great job with her playing and she still has a lot of enthusiasm on stage. My only problem was that they played three covers. They did a good job with them but with only playing a little over an hour they should've focused on their own stuff instead. One cover I wouldn't have minded but three is a bit much for a band that has big catalog and a short amount of time. Another song or two from their 70s material would've been nice. DEF LEPPARD: Undefeated Let's Get Rocked Animal Foolin' Love Bites Bass Solo Rock On Rocket Two Steps Behind Bringin' on the Heartbreak Switch 625 Hysteria Armageddon It Photograph Pour Some Sugar on Me Encore: Rock of Ages Yeah, I know Leps set is the same old, same old but I haven't seen them in eight years so I didn't mind it at all. Plus, i've seen them on the Adrenalize, Slang and Euphoria tours so i've seen them do a good selection of stuff in the past. They sounded really good, the set works and is very crowd pleasing. So I get why they don't change it up much now. But i'd be lying if I said that they don't need a setlist revamp. Maybe whenever their next album comes out it'll happen. If anything, Rock On has needed to go for a few years now. Joe sounded a lot better at this show than he did on their live album. Maybe playing the shorter sets now is helping his voice. He also had a lot more energy than the last couple times I saw them and was working the stage really good. Undefeated worked well as the opener. I was surprised how much better it was live. I'm not sure why the studio version lacks so much punch when compared with the live version. Overall, it was a very fun show and that's pretty much the main point of going to see Def Leppard nowadays. |
Heart does a fucking AMAZING JOB doing ANY Led Zep song I tell ya. I saw Heart back in 2006 at a casino (lol) and the Wilson sisters we're on fire. IMO they would have blown Leppard away on stage.

Yes, they do. If this was a headlining show from them I wouldn't have minded three covers because I know they always play a few. But when you've only got an hour I think it's better to focus on your own stuff. It's not like they don't have enough of their own material to choose from. For the record their version of 'The Battle Of Evermore' is one of my favorite covers ever. |
I am so sick of Def Leppard's lazy ass setlists. I just keep going back to see them though, thinking maybe one day they will play all my favorites. I am happy to say that I have seen them do Mirror Mirror, and Another Hit and Run.

If you're tired of it then don't go. There's no sense wasting your money if you don't like the set. Plus, it's not like there aren't sites like this and a few others that let you know the set ahead of time. You can also take a break from seeing them for a few tours maybe that'll freshen it up for you. Their lack of changing the sets now is strange to me because when I saw them through the 90s they were always switching stuff up each tour. I know Joe's voice might not be able to handle the the way he used to sing on HND and Pyro as much now but still throwing in something other than the single's off those two would be cool. But you take what you can get at this point I suppose. |
Good review.I saw them a couple of years ago with Poison and Joe's voice sounded much better than the previous time(i think 2007).They're still really good live, looking forward to the L.A. show.

Anyway I shouldn't have gone cause after Pyromania I started to dislike them. I went for my g/f of the time. Bad show Cheers ! PowerMaiden |

I always end up having a good time, just because they have always been one of my favorites. It was just be nice if they could get away from playing 90 min of only hits. Hell even like 3-4 years ago they were playing around 2 hours and mixing it up. |
