Band Members: Who's Nice and Who's a Dick to Meet
 

I'm just curious who some of the biggest assholes and some of the nicest in bands you've met?

For me I'd say the biggest asshole I met was Bobby Rondinelli (Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, etc). He was signing a few records/cds for me, and one got mixed in that he was on, when he got to it he threw it at me and said in a real dickhead way "I WASN'T ON THIS!!"

One of the first bands I met was Cannibal Corpse. I was walking to my car after the show and I saw them outside of their bus surrounded by a pretty big group of people. Some friends and I walked up and talked to them about the show and World Of Warcraft and what not. Alex was talking to the same group of dudes for quite a long time and didn't seem like he was irritated at all. A kid who I think may have been mentally challenged walked up to Corpsegrinder with a huge sword and he signed it for him. It's awesome that one of the hugest, most influential death metal bands around are is filled with good people who actually appreciate their fans.

Amon Amarth was also really cool. It was their first time in Oklahoma when my friends and I saw them and they really seemed to enjoy it. Olavi gave me shit along with my friends because I don't like Manowar, and they signed a bunch of shit for everyone and were really appreciative.

Totally. He's got this miserable rep, but he rocks. Very intelligent guy who wants to talk about things if he thinks you're on his wavelength.

Jeff from High on Fire was hands down the coolest, he and I sat at the bar and drank after Opeth for a couple hours, great guy.

The only two i've ever meet were Dio, he was doing an in store autograph session back in 1998 and Brian Fair from Shadows Fall earlier this year. I just exchanged brief pleantries with them and told them I like their music but both were very cool. The meeting with Brian Fair was just a chance encounter though. They were on a tour supporting 5FDP and he was just hanging out at the bar after the show so I just went up and meet him which a lot of people were doing.

I don't go out of my way to meet too many band members because if they're dicks it can ruin the image of them you built up for yourself and can also affect how you end up liking their music.
