Tales from the Rail
Not sure if there's a thread for this already or not but it's raining here in MD, a week before my Maiden date and I've kinda got nothing to do:cool: So, first I'd like to ask the more experienced members of the Iron Maiden universe: how early should I get to the D.C. gig if I want to get a good spot on the rail?

Now my Tale from the Rail: It was a school night early last November and me and 2 of my friends (who are in a band together) had made the 45 minute drive to D.C. in the pouring rain, waiting eagerly in line to enter the 9:30 Club. They had already seen Lamb of God before, so as silly as it sounds I was the only LOG virgin there:tp:

Now about my friends: one I've been doing martial arts with since I was like 10 and he was the heavyweight on our school's wrestling team ( I was the 119 lb wrestler but that's another story) The other weighed about 110 lbs and is still probably the best guitar player at our school, he's so skinny he reminds me of a holocaust survivor.
When we got inside and got our hands marked so people knew we were underage, we made straight for the rail. Ended up behind two HUGE guys...... like fat huge. I'm usually okay with overweight people, you know if they're not compressing themselves on a rail at a rock show and taking up a space 10 people could fill:flame: So me & my peeps waited like good suburban Calvert County kids do for them to get crushed by the insane amount of drunk thugs coming from the bar area.

The crowd was dead mostly for This Or The Apocalypse and got going a little for Periphery. It wasn't until Darkest Hour that people started flying and shit started to go down in the pit. About halfway through they're set, the big dudes in front of us left from the pressure leaving enough space for me and one of my friends. The other one was missing somewhere, oh well we got rail:tongue: Once Darkest Hour finished the insane crush began for the nearly home town crowd of LOG. On my left was my bud (the big one) and to my right was some other big looking dude.
Out of nowhere some black guy in a mohawk and leather.... in a wheelchair moves his way through people to the front. It was to be the first time in my concert going career where some crazy wheelchair guy wants on the rail (I've had a second since then). Needless to say the bouncer looking dude that wheeled him up there wouldn't take no for an answer and I ended up to the left of crazy, black, leather covered, mohawk, wheelchair dude:hmm: Then Lamb of God came out and all hell broke loose, wheelchair guy was BURIED underneath a sea of people and the crush got absolutely insane!! How my 125 lb frame hadn't imploded by the end of the night I have no clue.

About 3 songs in I had forgotten about wheel chair guy until I song something big coming up from behind. The fucker was crowd surfing!!!!! In his wheelchair!!! Of course it was too good to be true and he fell out right before the barricade. Security escorted him out, thank God. The endless supply of crowd surfers was astonishing, but it wasn't until about 10 min after the wheelchair guy left that some guy decided to stage dive. It's only interesting to note that he he decided to land directly on top of my head!! The only thing that kept me conscious was the summer conditioning I had done and the adrenaline of the LOG's music.

I kept my rail position only to find that halfway through the show, I was about 10 feet to the right of where I started and my friend was gone and in his place was some English dude, who wouldn't stop screaming "I fuckin' love this music"" and "You Americans are fuckin' crazy!!" some time later the security was still busy as hell with crowd surfers. In one instance i was helping one over. While I was doing this the sec guard reached through my arms to help the dude, in the process, punching my square in the eye. Before I knew it Lamb of God had blasted through Black Label, said goodbye and left. In my exhausted state, I found my two friends and we drove home and completely crashed.

School the next day was drowsy, but wearing my Dead Seeds shirt I had bought, I kept remembering the craziest rail experience I had had to date. That was to be my past show until wrestling season was over, and holy shit what a show it was:horns:
