Amon Amarth -- Pittsburgh, PA -- April 28th, 2010
Got to the show a little bit early, purchased a Twilight of the Thunder God II shirt and found a spot near the front of the stage.
Holy Grail was up first and they weren't really better or worse than I expected, but I gotta say they put on a good show. I don't know any of their songs. Next was Tyr. I'm not too big on folk metal at all, but I somewhat enjoyed them, although after awhile I thought they got a little old. He announced alot of the song names so here's the ones I remember. (In no particular order) Hold the Heathen Hammer High Northern Gate By the Sword In My Hand Hail to the Hammer Ragnarok (I could be wrong on this one) Amon Amarth. One of my favorite bands, and also one of the first extreme metal bands I got into. I've been waiting a long time to see them, and I was very impressed. My neck is sore as hell from headbanging, and I got some awesome pics on my phone. Their set was the same as it has been. 1. Twilight of the Thunder God 2. Free Will Sacrifice 3. Valkyries Ride 4. Asator 5. Varyags of Miklagaard 6. The Dragons' Flight Across the Waves 7. Guardians of Asgaard 8. Under the Northern Star 9. Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags 10. Valhall Awaits Me 11. Death In Fire 12. Runes to My Memory 13. ...And Soon the World Will Cease to Be 14. Live For the Kill Encore: 15. Cry of the Blackbirds 16. The Pursuit of Vikings On a humorous note, Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh is an old church, so of course these pagan bands had interesting things to say about that. The frontman from Tyr said that his "Great grandfather raided this place" and Johan from Amon Amarth noted that this is the "Proper use for a church". Just thought that was kinda funny. |
Thanks man, pumped for tomorrow

I love that song, so I remember it. |
I was there as well, a guy in a red/black Amon Amarth shirt and a hammer around my neck. I was up near the 2/3 lines of people up front, show was really good, volume seemed low, or else im just going deaf.
Was nice to see Tattered Banners and Live for the Kill live finally. My only complain was that there was this douche beside me who was getting pissed at people crowd surfing. He kept removing their shoes, one landed on stage which Johan got, and gave back, but then the douche removed another, throwing it and almost hitting one of the guitarists in the head. There was a nice wall of death for the roar after the cello part in Live for the Kill. Really liked the Pittsburgh audience, good metal brotherhood of sorts. |
I really can't blame the guy, crowd surfers are annoying as shit.

At a melodic death metal concert? Does this warrant throwing shoes AT THE BAND? |
