Megadeth -- Atlanta, GA -- March 21st, 2010

So I got there and like 100 people are wearing Slayer t-shirts. I don't feel so weird about wearing my Slayer hoodie. I did feel weird with my High on Fire shirt underneath, though- I only saw thrash and death metal t-shirts.

Exodus was great. The first few songs there were constant circle pits. A bunch of moshing, too. Rob Dukes was pretty funny but he seemed like a douche, though... I haven't listened to much of them but that wasn't a problem. I recognized "Bonded by Blood." Their set was probably the same as it has been. Best songs, IMO: "Bonded," "Piranha," "A Lesson in Violence," "War is my Shepard,"and possibly "Toxic Waltz." I think it was the same set as other nights.

Testament were also very good. Chuck Billy is fucking awesome. He's a funny fat guy and his growls are amazing. A couple of months ago I bought The New Order from some record store in Athens GA. I loved it. Then I asked my friend to burn me The Legacy. I hated it. Yet, Testament still kicked ass. For a decent portion of the set I was standing almost at the edge of the pit. Then I heard Chuck say the magic words: "We have a little extra time tonight." INTO THE PIT!!! Once that song started I jumped right in haha. My shoe fell off too, and I had to walk all the way back to the edge of the pit so I could put it back on. Also, I thought the hood of my hoodie was torn off and I was following everybody who I thought had it. I started motioning to my hoodie to one guy and the black hood I thought he was holding, but then I realized I still had my hood. Wow, I looked like an idiot. They also played "Soulds of Black" in addition to "Into the Pit" and the entire Legacy album.

After that I got some water and realized I had killer chest pain and a headache, too. My friend and I stayed in the far back next to the bar for Megadeth. (Plus, he was tired and couldn't mosh because he would pass out). Anyways, Megadeth. Well, I don't want to say they were bad...but they weren't the highlight of the night by any means. They just couldn't live up to the openers, you know what I'm sayin? Shame when that happens. First few songs they played SUCKED. I'm assuming they were the same as the other nights. Then they started playing Rust in Peace. People went CRAZY for "Holy Wars." (I didn't see many pits, though). My friend and I stayed until the end of the album and then we started to leave because we had to be picked up (school night...BLEHHH). But we still lingered, waiting to see what the next song was. BUt fucking Cumstaine blabbered about his childhood or some shit for 5 minutes. Finally we couldn't take it anymore and just left. As we were driving off my friend told me heard "Headcrusher" playing. Decent song. The only songs we missed that I would have loved to seen were "Peace Sells" and "Symphony of Destruction." Sucks. Huge shame, as I probably won't be seeing them again. They just didn't bring it. They lacked energy. It was a pretty boring performance, truth be told. It was very cool hearing Rust In Peace in its entirety, though. I am extremely glad I got to hear the title track, after learning it has never been played before (but if so, not many times, I guess). I was shocked to learn that- it's always been my favorite track from the album!

I would definitely see Testament again. Exodus is a strong possiblity- besides, I dig The Atrocity Exhibition. I won't rule out Megadeth, but you know, Cumstaine is such a greedy fucking bastard, he better have good fucking openers if he expects me to go see him again. Those tickets are so goddamn expensive.

Yeah, I haven't been to many metal shows so I wasn't sure if there's a certain reputation about the guy that wears Slayer. I know Slayer is one of the greatest and most respected bands in metal, but still I wasn't sure...

I also noticed that the people wearing Slayer were the ugliest people in the crowd :D (except me, of course ;) )

I didn't see much Maiden... I saw a Scorpions one though :D

haha thanks man, I actually didn't come up with the name though. I think I found it on another Megadeth thread here

@ Crionics... yeah, Megadeth t-shirts were definitely the majority. I wasn't shelling out 35 bucks for one though.

Around $50 to see 3 fairly major bands from the floor? Expensive? Get a job.

One of the most intense shows I've ever been to. I actually had to be lifted over the guard rail just to get out of the front. People crushed me and I lost my shoe and had to wait till the end of the show to get it.. CRAZY!

Hmmm, Doesn't seem like we were at the same show at all...

I stood at the back for Exodus, they were good, I have seen better but they at least got the crowd going unlike another band of the night.

From where I was for Testament (which was 4 rows from Rail), the crowd was mostly dead or at least not as into it as they were for Exodus. Granted most the people were singing the words and what not, but the only pit I saw was a few people behind me and it was 10-12 people, hardly anything note worthy. In fact I turned to the guy next to me and he said "If it's gonna be that small they should stop, because they are just gonna bother people."

When Megadeth started up I headed back to the soundboard and the place looked like it was slamming hard. I didn't see a "pit" but just a lot of movement. My friend who was on rail said after Tornado he had to get off the rail because the pain and pressure of everyone surging up was not worth it to be upfront. He said he tried to get back farther in the crowd but the crowd was so packed in that he made it 4-5 rows back then couldn't move.

Honestly, Megadeth stole the show mainly because a) Everyone knew the words b) The Sound was great (minus Dave's Mic and the Cymbals, they were low) and c) It was Rust In Peace, screw "The Legacy".

Overall
Exodus 7/10
Testament 8-8.5/10
Megadeth 9.5/10 (The mix is what hurt them here)

Usually The band isn't in such high spirits, but they were having a good time last night.
