Deftones -- Paradiso, Amsterdam -- August 25th, 2009

This was posted as a bulletin on myspace and I almost shit myself when I saw it. 25 songs. Note to Heaven & Hell and Dream Theater fans. THIS is getting your moneys worth for a show.

In this day and age it's good to see someone gets it. Deftones aren't my favorite band but I'd go see them in a heartbeat after seeing this:

Fieticiera
My Own Summer
Lhabia
Lotion
Hexagram
Needles & Pins
Beware
Elite
Nosebleed :flame:
Root :horns:
Korea
Rx Queen
Girls Telephone Boys
Hole in the Earth
One Weak
Engine #9 :blaze:
Fur
Rickets
Digital Bath
Be Quiet and Drive
Head Up :horns:
Change
Back to School

Encore:

Minerva
7 Words :rocker:

If they had played Teething I may think this was one of the best setlists I've ever seen. Deftones officially KILL in my book!

pretty good setlist...these guys are alot better than the crappy nu metal bands they always got lumped in with

Not for nothing dude, but Dream Theater has been playing 3 hour sets for years.... not to mention the fact that their music is light years more complex than Deftones. Yes, they cut their set down to 90 minutes this go round, but they also gave the fans 3 hours of other bands playing.

I feel ya on Heaven and Hell, but the group is entirely 60+. Their set time is commensurate with other bands their age.... I would have loved them to play another half hour too(especially at those ticket prices), but they did execute their songs to perfection.

I'm glad the Deftones are playing a nice long set too... but it's not exactly comparable nor accurate to bash those other two bands.

I was referring to recent posts and should have ellaborated. I'm glad I saw one of those epic Dream Theater sets because I'll never go see them again after what I've seen on here. My favorite Dream Theater album is still When Dream and Day Unite and the fact they play nothing from those early albums is so disrespectful to fans who have been with them since WD&DU and Images.

If you scan that Deftones setlist they cover every album in depth and play the songs people want to hear. I might switch a song or 2 out but I guarantee people leaving that venue all felt like they got their moneys worth.

That last DT set I saw posted makes me think no one left that arena thinking they got their moneys worth. I guess having a cover band open didn't add to the value either...

I wouldnt say anyone felt cheated after the Dream Theater set, hungry for more music is probably more accurate. Better to keep people hungry than bored.... The concert lasted from 6pm - 11 pm, and my ticket was $60 with a great seat. That comes out to 12 bucks an hour, not too shabby if you ask me

Calling Zappa plays Zappa a cover band may be technically correct, but you'd be hard pressed to find more world-class musicians assembled in one band. Also, as Zappa's music has always been rooted in free-form jazz, it is a tradition of the genre to present new interpretations of classic tunes... and who better to do it than his son. The Zappa faithful were also definitely out en masse at the show I was at, so I have to disagree with saying people were pissed.

wow, what a setlist!

I saw them play Teething once... May 2003 right before the s/t CD came out when they did that handful of shows in tiny clubs. Steve Richards from Taproot sang Teething w/ them.

Sa-fukkin-weeeet! I love that song with a passion. I bet the Taproot guy wailed that song. Very cool!

Funny story: I have a vhs of a Deftones show when they opened for Kiss and literally they are doging shoes and projectiles the entire show. I know they're a strange opener but who throws their f'n shoes?
