Generally not a big fan. I really like "Autumn Into Summer" by Pelican, though.

Also, get into some post-rock. Your tastes in metal pretty much run the spectrum and I know you're into some indie so there's no reason you haven't already fallen in love with the likes of Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, and so many others.

I saw Explosions In The Sky and I loved them. I really dig them. :fist:

Riot - Inishmore
Riot - The Last of the Mohicans
Symphony X - The Death of Balance
Royal Hunt - Martial Arts

Favorite instrumental things for me are largely not metal as it happens :eyes:, I guess I just prefer my metal with vocals. These are my favorite instrumental things:

(Most) Warmen in general :)
Nine Inch Nails' Ghosts I-IV album :)
Arch Enemy - Hybrids of Steel (already mentioned but it kicks soo much ass) :D
(Most) Aphex Twin in general
Metallica's instrumentals are all amazing too (well from the first 4 albums anyway)

Video Game music is Instrumental too :dorky:, so these also:
Final Fantasy music :)
Legend Of Zelda music :)
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 OST :)
Killer7 OST

While I'm here I may as well plug a few of my favorite jazz standards as well:
Joy Spring ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vg9CNCPxKY&feature=related )
Giant Steps ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kotK9FNEYU ...this video is awesome)
Caravan ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNAxjeaT0Kk )

Rush- YYZ, La Villa Strangiato

Megadeth- Wake Up Dead (it's practically an instrumental).

Agalloch - Odal, The Lodge, really any instrumental from The Mantle or by them in general
Drudkh - Ukranian Insurgent Army (though I'm sure you know this one)
Anything by God Is An Astronaut
Kaki King - Bone Chaos in the Castle
Metal Church - Merciless Onslaught
Velvet Cacoon - Genevieve (has a few barely audible words, close enough)

And for some reason I've always liked "Man Made God" by In Flames. Don't ask me why.

Oh I LOVE this song. In Flames have some great instrumentals, "Dialogue With The Stars" is also very awesome.

I can only take that kind of stuff in small doses. I like Isis, Pelican, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, but that's about it.

Anything by:

Pelican
God Is an Astronaut
This Will Destroy You
Explosions in the Sky
Caspian
Red Sparowes
Mono
If These Trees Could Talk
Gifts From Enola
Battles
Romance of Young Tigers
Mogwai
North (except last year's release - has vocals...but it's still awesome)
Disappearer
Grails
Dub Trio
Irepress
Karma to Burn
5ive (not the boy band) ...these guys absolutely fucking CRUSH - and there's only TWO of them :rocker:

...and if you want fucking EPIC, you gotta try on some Russian Circles...the best "instru-metal" band in the universe (IMHO) :rocker::rocker::rocker:

Enjoy!

Nat :horns:

P.S. - Oh, and the instrumental version of Clutch - called The Bakerton Group - is awesome, too.

Just listened to The Heart of It All, a ten-minute instrumental which closes the new Chimaira album The Infection, out week after next. Outstanding (the rest of the album blows).

Try Canvas Solaris.

I just checked them out - they are very good. You can hear the influence of bands like Cynic and Atheist all over their stuff. Nice. Thanks for the recommendation.

Another band they remind me of - and I forgot to mention these guys in my original post - is Dysrhythmia.

But seriously, though - y'all need to check out Russian Circles. It is a different sound than Canvas Solaris (or most anything else out there, for that matter). They are a trio from Chicago who are friends with Pelican and the like, and they make some of the most crushing instrumental metal music out there. I've seen them live twice, and they fucking brought the house down both times. Their drummer is amazing, and with regard to guitars, they just seem to have a complete mastery of tone, tempo, volume, etc. Almost every song is like an emotional roller coaster - they are really good at what they do. :rocker::rocker::rocker:

Another excellent instrumental band is STINKING LIZAVETA. Two male guitarists and a female drummer - they absolutely crush as well. Stoner metal with lots of solos and awesome riffage. They are playing live near me, but it's the same day as Maryland Death Fest (:tp: figures), so I'll have to wait until the next time they tour!

One awesome psychedelic instrumental band I like is called Tangerine Dream. Very dreamy stuff.
