i think watching sports in general is boring. i guess there are some situations where it creates suspense, like when the last yankees vs redsocks world series game went into overtime and that guy hit a grand slam, but for the most part its just boring to watch, especially with commercial breaks every 2 minutes.

Wait, you like basketball. Basketball players couldn't cut it in hockey for a day, and that's not because of the toughness of it. When basketball players can do their job as well as they do now, but on ice, then maybe we'll talk. Interesting to you or not, hockey is the only major sport which can match the pace of basketball and requires a big skill set in order to excel at it.

Yeah, I don't see them being able to sign Lee to the contract he wants. Plus all their bargaining chips are gone for the foreseeable future with all the prospects they've given up. Overall, it probably wasn't worth it. I'm still not sure if they can beat out the Braves yet.

I know Oswalt got shelled his first start, but I can't complain with trading for him. I know Happ has but up good numbers, but something doesnt seem right there, and the team never seemed to have any faith in him. Obviously, I'd rather still have Lee here. The world survived the phils winning the world series ago, i think it could survive dallas with a title. Seriously though, Cliff Lee is still talked about in hushed tones up here - dude is a yankee killer and a total badass. He's good for two wins in a playoff series, hope you have the horses for the rest.

But at least the Phillies have won the WS in the last 30 years.

Texas Rangers. 38 years. 1 playoff victory. Not playoff series victory. 1 single win in the playoffs.

CJ Wilson is 14-6, Tommy Hunter is 12-3, Colby Lewis is 11-12. I think we have the horses to take on the Yanks, Rays and Twins.

I've been saying that since his first inning with the club. Won't happen, though. Dusty Baker has a huge boner for traditionalism and standing behind your closer, which just allows Cordero to suck balls and know he can keep his job.

Very noble of you.

Werth's a decent player who puts up numbers and does a lot of dumb shit. He got picked off second on an intentional walk a few weeks ago, because the pitcher stuck his tongue out at him, and he got distracted. He's probably going to have a decent playoffs, and someone will overpay the shit out of him.

Yeah, it was a rhetorical question because Holliday's done squat for the Cards this year. The Reds have completely eclipsed them.

I don't know if Werth is good enough for that much, but he will definitely get a hefty new contract this winter, partially because he's been a key cog in that Phillies team for the past few years and partially because of Boras.

I love it. I used to go to games at Cinergy Field and I think my memories of it are better because what 11 year old isn't going to have a badass time at a baseball game, but Great American Ballpark is gorgeous, lower deck seats are affordable and you can see the whole field from a reasonable distance and, if you're behind home plate, see the Ohio River over the outfield wall. I wouldn't say ATT is extravagant or anything, but if you ask anybody around the league it's the coolest other than Wrigley or Fenway, just because it doesn't have the history. And I took it for granted for a little while until I went to a preseason Niners-Raiders game (just because we got tickets for free, because nobody wants to deal with the crowd), and I remembered what a shit hole Candlestick is.

And what do you think is gonna be different next year other than having Morneau back Fonz???

You can't win by out-managing when you're playing a team with double your payroll.

Mets have a top five payroll the last couple years, that's worked out pretty good for them

Yankees really benefitted by Tampa forcing a game 5 - I assume Price/Lee pitch that game and won't be available til ALCS game 5. Ugh.

Yeah the Mets are probably the biggest failure of a team this decade. That's why they fired the GM and coach this season.

Yes and no, they could go in game 2 on 1 day less rest or game 3 with an extra day of rest.
If the Rangers don't go to the next round, the trade for Cliff Lee will be a failure. They had the division won without him and they gave up a top prospect who was looking like the real deal.

I totally agree. Lee should have pitched today.

It's not a forgone conclusion that Lee is gone in the off-season. The Rangers just signed a large TV deal with Fox sports. They can take some of that money and throw it at Lee.

Lee doesn't exactly have the greatest numbers in that ballpark...I can't see him staying with him being the hot commodity on the pitching market.

Yeah, but if nothing else Bobby Cox just put the cherry on top of his case for the hall of fame with that double pinch-hit move.

And the window is closing on the Reds, unlike Brad I really thought they were at least going to do better than they have so far. I'm hoping that they come back in the last 2 innings just so that the Phils don't have all of their pitchers fully rested by the beginning of the NLCS.

Edit: Reds basically get 5 hits in the 23 innings in which everybody but Roy Oswalt is pitching. Congrats.

:( There's always next year.

Rolen and Cabrera were clearly not 100%. I have no complaints with our pitching over the course of the three games either. In the last 25 innings of the series, we gave up 4 earned runs. Anyone would be happy with that result. The bats weren't there when they needed to be (mostly because the Phils' pitchers are so fucking good) but the real culprit was defense. That's something to think on until spring training.

With the Bengals sucking that's gonna be an agonizing wait. :bouville:

This teams are pretty evenly matched, Phillies always have a ton of trouble scoring vs the giants, especially @ Pac Bell. SF was the one team I didn't want to see in the playoffs...should be a good series.

Oh cool, I'll be at a wedding Saturday night during the game.

Gotta get past Cliff Lee first.

C'mon Rangers!!!!

They could still do it. I think the Yankees are a big team, but not quite the perfect team everyone makes them out to be.

I have the utmost confidence we can beat the Yankees. They didn't even win their division and we just eliminated the team that did.

No matter what happens from here on out, this has been the most successful season in Texas Rangers history.

Yeah 2-4 more wins in the regular season doesn't mean you've got a much better team, especially when the goal in the postseason is to win 3-4 games, and getting hot and/or lucky is better than being consistantly good. That said I think they could beat the Yankees. Their lineup is pretty damn good and they could just win 4 games by starting CJ and Lee twice.

If Sabbathia isn't sharp like he was in that first game against the Twins the Rangers won't miss those pitches like the Twins were. You can get away w/ alot more w/ Minnesota than Texas.

Game 1: Roy Halladay vs. Tim Lincecum
Game 2: Roy Oswalt vs. Jonathan Sanchez
Game 3: Cole Hamels vs. Matt Cain
Game 4: Joe Blanton vs. Madison Bumgarner
