The thing is, there's a lot of metal songs in that list. While the differences are very small, there are some songs that are "too metal to be hard rock" and vice versa.

Edit: never mind, didn't see the "3 per artist rule"

That being said, kudos to putting together a top 150 list, I could barely put together a top 10 song list!

i perfer the 3 maiden songs i put on there, nothing against it, i had to put a 3 song max because there would have benn only 5 bands in the entire countdown if i hadn't of.

I hate top "all time" lists of this type, because they all should basically be re-titled: "Average songs that we're told we're all supposed to like when in fact they are almost all mediocre"

There are a few exceptions to this, when fairly popular band's popular songs actually happen to be really great ("Carry On Wayward Son" and "Don't Stop Believin'" come to mind), but generally I feel it's a pretty strong rule. (See Maiden).

I'm not hating on you in particular. I just don't like these kinds of lists for the exact reason(s) I just mentioned. They play into the absolutely exhausted stereotype of commercialized music, that the songs that are popular are automatically the best. While, as I said, for some bands this actually proves to be true, but for many it most definitely is not. I get this a lot from arrogant popular classic rock fans, much like my own father. People who have difficulty believing that if a song isn't played on the radio, that it could possibly be worth a damn. Not realizing that for the majority of popular acts, the record companies and management choose the singles based upon their "marketability". There are exceptions to this, such as the old, tired classic rock staples that get played on radio even though they are 8 or 9 minutes long, but generally the songs that become popular are not chosen because they are actually the best.
Sorry, huge rant there. I'm just sick of this sort of mentality. I don't want it to seem like I'm attacking you personally.

I don't think you can find anyone who would not recognize KISS or Metallica as two of the biggest bands in history (although nowadays KISS is more like a corporation that occasionally plays rock music).

Div
02-28-2009, 07:51 PM
theres not a huge amount of recognition for metallica among metal fans because we know that other, better, metal exists outside of metallica. but the average joe-schmo who listens to the classic rock station on the radio will think that metallica is the heaviest, most edgy music out there. metallica definitely gets more recognition than it deserves.

I think KISS must have some incriminating pics of VH1 execs or something, because it feels like they're the most covered hard rock band on there!

Yeah, I gotta agree with everyone else, this is just kind of downright retarded. Metallica and Kiss are two of the most recognized, worshiped, and commercialized hard rock bands in the world. Saying they are not hugely recognized and loved is a little ridiculous.

Look, my point is that it's fucking absurd to say KISS and Metallica don't get an enormous amount of recognition from the general populace and from the media.

Im saying that there recognition isn't coming from you. You did say they were a buisness instead of a rock band. Which is kinda true. I think only Gene Simmons is the buisness part. And Metallica gets bashed by the mainstream media (with a few exceptions) which pisses me off. So my point is Kiss isnt getting Musical Recognition, and Metallica is Recognised for stupid shit, (new album) and somehow they got into the HoF which is bull-shit, (but thats for another thread)
