I've been in the habit since I got my first real iPod a few months ago of putting mostly choice songs instead of full albums on there, but I'm tryin to go old school and start filling it mostly with the whole start-to-finish record. I hate succumbing to this A.D.D. generation (lawl) mentally of listening to a song or even half a song then changing it incessantly, which modern technology gives you the choice of doing and even promotes. What are your guys listening habits when it comes to the iPod? Hit singles or full albums? Post what you're jammin these days too if you want, here's the records I've got on mine right now:

Absu- Absu

Oh god, I've got 6,000 songs on mine, so I'm not even going to try and list everything. I bought an 80GB model so I'd never have to move things on and off of it; I can just keep filling it up. The vast majority is full albums, though. Everything is meticulously labeled and organized: correct tracklist order, correct spelling, album artwork, and so on.

80 GB Video Classic, so it fits my whole collection. I have all the CDs I own on there (and no other music, I'm still a purist  ), a handful of Anthony Bourdain episodes, and three comic book movies.

EDIT: Oh, and how do I listen to it? If I'm working out alone I put the whole fucking thing on shuffle, why not. But the other 90% of my listening is full albums.

Mine looks like the blue one. and it has all my music on it.

As for listening tendencies. I actually have a full blown system for doing this. I make a playlist for each artist, which can include full albums, or just the songs from each album that I like. For instance, here's my Dio playlist:

Man On The Silver Mountain
Tarot Woman
Run With The Wolf
Starstruck
Stargazer
A Light In The Black
Long Live Rock 'N' Roll
Gates Of Babylon
Kill The King
Rainbow Eyes
Neon Knights
Children Of The Sea
Heaven & Hell
Die Young
Lonely Is The Word
Turn Up The Night
Voodoo
The Sign Of The Southern Cross
The Mob Rules
Falling Off The Edge Of The World
Stand Up And Shout
Holy Diver
Gypsy
Caught In The Middle
Don't Talk To Strangers
Straight Through The Heart
Invisible
Rainbow In The Dark
Shame On The Night
We Rock
The Last In Line
I Speed At Night
One Night In The City
Evil Eyes
Egypt (The Chains Are On)
King Of Rock & Roll
Rock 'N' Roll Children
Sacred Heart (Live)
Night People
Dream Evil
Sunset Superman
All The Fools Sailed Away
Naked In The Rain
Overlove
I Could Have Been A Dreamer
Computer God
After All
TV Crimes
Letters From Earth
Master Of Insanity
Sins Of The Father
Too Late
I
Buried Alive

As you can see, sometimes songs from multiple artists will go into the same playlist, particularly when the sound doesn't change that much in an artists career. I also do this with Helloween/Gamma Ray, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, and Hellhammer/Celtic Frost. An exception to this rule would be Black Sabbath (the Ozzy years) and Ozzy's solo career, because to me those two bands are two separate entities, whereas with Dio...not so much.

What I used to do was listen to each playlist I had in alphabetical order. This process would, as you could imagine, take a very long time. Then I got tired of doing that, because after a while that sort of thing would require an exhausting amount of emotional investment. Now I just try and go through a new album I may have bought during the day, along with putting an artist playlist on shuffle for five songs.

I would never want to PAY for a ridiculously overpriced (IMO) product like and iPod, when I could find something much cheaper and nerdier :dorky: :D, but heck I got mine as a surprise Christmas gift the year before last, and I gotta admit, it's really great. Just because it's kind of a rip off, and trendy doesn't mean it's not a great product.

powerslave_85

I don't really see how they're "ridiculously overpriced." That was probably true a few years ago, but now it's a pretty good deal. When I bought my 80GB, it cost me the same price as my 20GB had cost me about 2 years earlier. Sure, the Touch models are still too expensive, but considering that they're internet capable it's not THAT bad.

Okay, you're probably right, since I just realized my notions of iPods being way too expensive linger from the last time I was actually looking for new mp3 players (about two years ago  ). By now, it really is a decent deal for a classic (you get tons of space), and just about all the models I once considered better both functionally and cost-effectively have been discontinued. :freak:

the problem with ipods is that they restrict you so much. if you want to download an app and add it you cant, unless you jailbreak it, and then your warranty is invalidated. you can download apps, but only the ones apple lets you, and youve gotta pay for them. plus when you have problems with it you have to deal with those apple "genius" pricks. and apple is trying to market their ipod touch as a gaming console now. the whole company is just a bunch of extortionists. theres also the "trendy" factor, if you care about that type of thing, but as far as mp3 players go i guess its not a big deal.

but there is always better technology out there, like this phone coming out later this year that destroys apple's http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/17/nvidias-tegra-in-the-flesh-booting-to-android-and-pumping-out/

It's funny that there have been a handful of players/phones that have come along in the past few years that always brought up the headlines "iPod/iPhone killer?" The only thing to come close was the Zune.
It just seems like everyone is always a step or two behind Apple. We can all bitch and moan about how hip it is, but not even Billy Mays can sell over 150 million units of anything if it sucks.

well there are better touch screen phones than the ipod already out there, but apple just gets the credit because theyve marketed it more and they were the first to release it. i give credit to the marketing the most, i mean there are tons of products that suck but continue to sell alot (keystone beer for example)

but that nvidia phone can play bluray quality video for 10 hours straight and run 3d games and windows, and the way it plugs into the laptop like that is beyond cool as far as innovation goes. lets hope the phone isnt put on AT&T.

Apps? What? I use my iPod to play music.

(Yes, I know what apps are.)

plus when you have problems with it you have to deal with those apple "genius" pricks.

My experience with "those apple genius pricks" has only been positive. One such experience included a full refund for an FM transmitter that didn't work in my car and a suggestion to go elsewhere and buy a product not even sold in Apple stores. And throughout the years, they have been more than ready to replace my iPod with virtually no questions asked (although I've heard that recently their warranty policies have gotten more stringent).

thats a good point too, i mean i like all the features but they should offer entry level phones that just do the basics for people who dont want to pay so much.

but i think eventually phones will be the only gadget you'll need to carry around and everything else will be incorporated into it. 10 years from now cell phones will probably be able to do what most desktops can today, just plug it into a monitor and keyboard and you're good to go.

all i can say is that mine wasn't (it was the apple store in the rockaway mall) maybe you just got the nice guy, but the two different guys i talked with on two separate occasions seemed to talk down to me and act very arrogant, maybe cause i had a really old model ipod? i think they were taking their job title too seriously.

My fucking ipod is screwed. Its stuck in 1439 error mode, apparently. Itunes can't restore it. Everytime I plug it in, my PC freezes up and itunes refuses to open.

And the thing is, i didnt have that problem before I sent it in to get checked by Apple for a different problem.

Fuck apple.

if it was 1349 error mode that would be pretty metal

I heard a piece on NPR a couple weeks ago about how the Japanese are years ahead of our cell phone technology. The iPhone might be state-of-the-art to us, but for them it's hilariously obsolete.

yea, according to that article they dont have home PC's as much as we do here, so i can only imagine what type of phones theyve got to compensate for that.

Yeah, they said almost no one uses their home computers for email. Also, "e-mail" means something slightly different there, although I forgot exactly how they described it. There's also a new trend of people writing novels on their cell phones and then uploading them to sites so other people can read them. Crazy.

Our wireless networks can't handle that kind of technology. They're able to have much faster networks because so much of their population lives in densely populated cities.

When I first got an iPod I'd only put my favorite songs off albums on it. Then I started hearing the same stuff over and over so I started adding full albums. Then I started downloading any free shit off bandcamp that I was remotely interested in onto it. Then I lost it and am back to using my backup 1GB Shuffle.

I have a 120 GB classic completely full with like over 13,000 songs. I think when my current ipod dies (still going pretty strong after countless drops and over 2 years of daily play) I will go with a 250 GB or whatever they have out there by then.

Used to have 160 GB classic that was full until it crapped out on me last year. It was my second iPod to stop working. Haven't got around to buying a new one since.

I dropped my 160 GB Classic hard a few years ago and I've had to restore it countless times. Luckily I haven't had to restore it once yet this whole year though. As long as I don't try to transfer a lot of files on it at once I don't have problems.

I'm always worried that the hard drive is just gonna fail on me one day though.

If it does die I do have a 2GB shuffle that I use for working out that would become my everyday iPod, but that would suck.

80 GB black ipod classic. It's pretty much broken right now. It thinks its charging when it's not and it only turns off after the battery gets down to like a fourth. It sucks, I want a new one for Christmas. It's got 36.7 GBs of music on it.I have a 1 GB original model ipod shuffle for running.

I have the 160GB black iPod classic. Once I add the most recent albums I bought, it will have 10,012 songs and 71.77 GB filled. This year in particular has been crazy in terms of finding new music, but I still have a long way to go :D
