From a Classic Metal Show interview with Savatage/Trans-Siberian Orchestra bassist Johnny Lee Middleton:

The Classic Metal Show: Johnny, just answer the question right off the bat, and I'll get it out of the way. Is there ever going to be a Savatage reunion?

Johnny Lee Middleton: "Uh...pretty sure about that. We have something we've been discussing. There are some things we've been discussing, but that's all I can say at this point. Right now we are in the studio finishing up the TSO record down here in Tampa. Once that record is done, that will leave the doors open to do something else."

The Classic Metal Show: We've had Chris Caffery and Jon Oliva on the show several times, and they always say, 'it's all about the timing. If we had time...'

Johnny Lee Middleton: "It's all about time. At this point in time, Trans-Siberian has grown into something very large. We are late on our record. We are working on it right now. As soon as we get done with it, it's going to free us up some time to look and do some other things. That's when you may see some sort of Savatage thing. Right now we are just concentrating on finishing up the TSO project."

It's not going to happen, and TSO has nothing to do with it. I want it to happen more than you can possibly imagine, but I really just don't think it's going to.
If it would ever happen, and there was a show anywhere in the US, I'll be there.

They all seem pretty open to it to me.

Jon Oliva is the one missing piece to the puzzle. The rest of the guys want to do it very badly. I've talked to Chris Caffery and Jeff Plate about it and they're basically dying to make it happen, I can only assume Johnny Lee Middleton is the same. Jon doesn't want to do it. I've heard this from just about every person surrounding Jon except Jon himself. His manager, roadies from the JOP tour, and even the rest of the guys. Rumor has it that Jon doesn't want to have a Savatage reunion because Jon Oliva's Pain allows him to go out and play Savatage songs but he has total artistic freedom. Savatage basically started to become totally dominated by Paul O'Neill, and Jon likes the fact that he has total control over the music and career of JOP. I've heard every story in the book about Paul being a total tool, so it doesn't come as any surprise to me.

If that's the case, Chris, Jeff and Johnny should have a word with Zak and just get on with it.
