So, nominees are up: www.oscar.com
What do you guys think? I'm rather disappointed that The Dark Knight didn't get a best picture nod, I thought the Academy would finally get over their bias against summer action movies for this one but I guess not. And if Ledger doesn't get supporting actor it'll be a crime (especially over Downey, Jr. in Tropic Thunder. WTF?!) Overall I thought the nominees were pretty good, and I hope Benjamin Button does well.
Your thoughts?

I knew DK wasn't going to get a Best Picture nod, and I don't think it should have.
I'm fucking surprised they actually gave Ledger a nominee.
If Cesar Romero was still alive, I'd say he should accept for him, but since he isn't, I'm go with Mark Hammil. :D
On a side note, I heard Benjamin Button was terrible.

Why not, because it doesn't fit the idiom of an "Oscar movie"? I thought it was the best thing I saw all year.

You heard wrong. It was awesome.

I can't really put my finger on WHY I don't think it's Oscar material, I just don't. I don't think it's because it's a superhero movie, because Return of King broke down the barrier in terms of "fantasy" movies winning Oscars.
To be honest, I think Wall-E was the film that got robbed. That definitely should have received a Best Picture nomination.

Benjamin Button was pretty terrible.
Doubt and The Wrestler are the only movies prominently featured in these awards that I think are worth much.

I guess I should mention that I haven't seen any of the movies nominated for Best Picture.

Usually, if I ever do see those kinds of movies, it's not until after the Oscars when they come out on DVD.

I've heard from sources I trust that Milk was pretty awesome, actually. I might have to go see it.
