So, tonight was my first ever time seeing Iced Earth, despite being a fan for about 5 years now.
My friends and I got to the Trocadero at about 5 sharp, and after getting some Chinese takeout got in line. Unfortunately we had our tickets at will-call so we were delayed upon opening of doors, but I still managed to be 2nd row, down on the right side.
Into Eternity were surprisingly first of the two openers and came on at 7:30. They played 6 songs, lasting about a half hour. I'm really getting sick of seeing these guys. Tonight was #6, which is WAY too much for a band I don't like at all. However I won't rip into them too badly, as they were at least entertaining tonight.
Saviours came on at 8:15 and played one of the most godawfully boring 40 minute sets I have ever seen. I would best describe them as a generally stoner-ish band, but really bad at that. They basically played a set comprised of entirely 2 or 3 riffs, and their singer is one of the most tone-deaf non-growlers I've ever heard. It wasn't awful, just REALLY boring. I seriously kinda dosed off for like 5 or 10 minutes.
Iced Earth themselves took the stage at like 9:20, and played about an hour and 40 minutes total. The show itself was pretty great, every member of the band being obviously very into their job. I really enjoy the new bassist, who not only is a very very competent player but also has a surprisingly good voice for backing vocals and has a great stage presence. Barlow was, as expected, in absolutely top form, his falsetto still among the best in the business, hands down. My only real complaints about the show come from the sound. First of all, this show was just WAY too loud, quite possibly like the loudest show I've ever been to. In addition to that all you could hear most of the time were drums, bass, and (surprise) rhythm guitar. Barlow was only really audible when he sang high or during ballads. The set list had a couple of really excellent surprises, some excellent expected tunes, and I'm not gonna lie, a disappointment or two, mainly the absence of A Question of Heaven. However, I am pleased to say I had a really good time and the show was definitely worth the trip, money, and time... and that's really all I'm looking for at the end of the day.

Set list:
Intro: In Sacred Flames
1.Behold the Wicked Child
2.Motivation of Man
3.Setian Massacre
4.Burning Times
5.Declaration Day

12.Dracula
13.Hold at All Costs (Gettysburg)
14.High Water Mark (Gettysburg)
Encore:

I don't know how I feel about that setlist. I DEFINITELY agree with the disappointment due to the lack of A Question of Heaven.

I've made up my mind, that setlist sucks. Doing Gettysburg instead of the Something Wicked trilogy sucks. They dropped opening with Dark Saga, which would have been awesome. Actually the only song they play off of Dark Saga is Vengeance is Mine, which happens to be one of my least favorite songs from that CD. If I recall, they also played Travel in Stygian earlier in the tour, which is one of their greatest songs. Just about the only song on that setlist that I'm really excited to hear is Dracula.

I really enjoyed it. Absence of A Question of Heaven aside:

Pros:
The 2/3 of the Gettysburg trilogy, Watching Over Me, and Come What May. I totally didn't see the Gettysburg coming, WOM hadn't been a constant, and CWM is easily the best (and only great IMO) track on the new album.

Cons:
If you're gonna do one Stormrider track, it shouldn't be the song itself. I'd have rather seen Pure Evil, Travel in Stygian, or Angel's Holocaust. Also I've always felt My Own Savior is kind of overrated.

With Iced Earth though I take the good with the bad. I'm not gonna bitch over one or two songs, because with a band as hit-or-miss as they are, it could always be A LOT worse.

Maiden33 I also agree that My Own Savior is extremely overrated, and Stormrider was a poor choice off such an amazing album. Not happy with this setlist at all.

You call those pros? wtf. Watching Over Me shouldn't have even been put on a studio album, let alone be played live every show.

The presence of Gettysburg makes me mad I'm not seeing this tour.

B.How much were the shirts?

A. They had shirts with both the Framing Armageddon and Crucible of Man album covers, as well as one or two other more typical IE "generic" design shirts.

B. All t-shirts were $25. I think longsleeves were $30 or $35

I didn't get too close of a look because I wasn't planning on buying anything, but that's what I know.

Dark Saga is a terrible song to open an album with. A show? Snoozer.

Oh yea, and Watching Over Me totally sucks.

Both of you guys suck. Watching Over Me is easily one of IE's best ballads, actually probably my favorite, unless A Question of Heaven can just be considered an epic, overblown ballad.

Using my memory and Metal-Archives, I can give you this much, out of order:

Diagnosis Terminal
Time Immemorial
Severe Emotional Distress
Timeless Winter
Beginning of the End

and one more, I recall 6 songs total.

I grabbed from their official forum at ultimatemetal.com (http://www.ultimatemetal.com):

Out
Severe Emotional Distress
Splintered Visions
Diagnosis Terminal
Surrounded By Night
Timeless Winter

they had posted lists from more than one night and A Black Light Ending was swapped in there somewhere.

Out and Surrounded By Night must be fucking amazing live. And I don't know how you guys don't think Watching Over Me is good, it was easily one of the best live songs I've ever heard.
