Seeing as we have a dedicated movies forum, I figure there might as well be a dedicated DVD purchases thread.

I've recently picked up:

Black Hawk Down (3-DVD Special Edition)
Gabriel
Hitman: Extreme Edition
30 Days of Night
Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)
The Island

Mostly fairly brain-in-a-jar stuff, but should all be good fun for a Saturday evening.

I recently bought No Country for Old Men, but pretty soon I'm gonna be buying Network, Good Night and Good Luck, and All the President's Men, because I love media movies but don't own any.

Yep, just about. Some stuff of that age is reaching the £5 mark (I got Gabriel for £3.50), but not all. I've got an appreciable wishlist ;)

Yeah they're all great, but I think Network might even be my favorite. Chances are your local rental shack has it for a dollar, it's well worth the two hours.

I just got season 2 of The Magnificent Seven. Did anyone watch that? Eric Close, Ron Perlman and Michael Biehn sounds like a good combo to me. I've got season 1 too, but haven't watched it yet.

Also got a series called ReGenesis which sounds cool, and a mini series starring Sam Neil called The Triangle.

I just bought Diary of the Dead on a whim.

What a fucking awesome movie. Not in a "This is going to win awards" type of way but in a "Holy shit this is so over the top and crazy, it's like a modern day B-Movie" type of way.

Other than that, enjoyable movie.

Also just watched Southland Tales. Less good.

Pretty fucking awesome. I know you've seen them live, so you know that they're absolutely fantastic, and all the live stuff here represents that. To be honest the video quality of the primary concert isn't amazing, but it's good. My favorite thing about the DVD is that the 2nd DVD has 11 separate songs that don't appear on the first disc. The live at ProgPower '07 and the "Rehearsal Room" Footage are probably the 2 best things on the entire DVD actually. All in all it's just pretty awesome, especially for a band that previously had no video available.

Not only was this price fucking ridiculous, there's blatantly no communication between the warehouse and the head office. Given that this box is now out of print, head office emailed me saying they're processing a refund of my £9.34.

But the warehouse clearly had one copy left, which they sent me. So when my refund is processed, and given that I used Quidco.com for cashback on online purchases, I'll have been paid about £0.80 to own a 22-disc box set.

I just never got around to buying it before. For one thing, the special editions (which I loathe with every fiber of my being) were the only ones available on DVD for quite a while. They finally released the two disc DVDs that had the unaltered theatrical versions on the "bonus" disc, but it took me a while to bother picking it up.

Predator 2 is a bad movie but it was only $5 more than both single blu-ray editions so why not.

Already mentioned it, but I got Kick-Ass on Blu-Ray. It looks spectacular as I expected, and the special features are solid. It has a making-of documentary that's as long as the actual movie, and has some interesting and funny stuff in it. The highlight was probably one of Chloe Moretz's stunt doubles, a 28 year-old Chinese guy, decked out in the Hit Girl costume

The local Blockbuster has used Blu-Ray copies of District 9, Inglourious Basterds, and The Hurt Locker for $15 each; I might pick those up this weekend. Other Blu-Ray purchases from the last couple weeks: Shaun of the Dead, The Punisher, and Watchmen.

Decided to pick up Kick-Ass, got lost in Walmart's DVD section while doing so and managed to pick up Gran Torino, Once Upon a Time in the West, and The Outlaw Josey Wales while I was at it. Hey, I'm not complaining.

Almost forgot: I picked up Date Night a couple weeks ago. Great stuff. Hell, the outtakes alone are almost worth the price of admission. Not surprisingly, Tina Fey can come up with killer material on the fly. "I'm gonna go home and look at my vagina with a handmirror."
