It took 5 tracks to find blastbeats. Fail. Not a bad album, just not black metal. It seems to be one of those modern passive albums, like MDB, Paradise Lost, Katatonia, Amorphis....Emperor-to-Ihsahn even. Bands that used to be rough, but are now more rock. Good stuff nonetheless.

Lonliness starts out ok, but it just goes on for too long. If it was 90 seconds shorter I would listen to it more often. But on the production note, I don't understand how anyone could think any Birch-produced Maiden album sounded worse than NPFTD.

My deal with The Sword isn't about all the hipster/parody metal accusations, that doesn't concern me and really shouldn't concern anyone in terms of enjoying their music. They still need to improve as songwriters, and as someone who listens to way too much High On Fire and Black Sabbath, there's no getting around the fact that they sound exactly to a tee how you would imagine a band of young kids trying to imitate Sabbath and HOF to sound. Nothing wrong with that, but the amateurish vibe comes across to me and not in like the "Oh yeah this is raw and primitive Hessian stoner metal!" way but more like "They're trying really hard and the pieces are there but the execution isn't quite up to par." It just doesn't convince me yet. Gods of The Earth is certainly a step up from Age Of Winters but they still have a ways to go before they hit their stride I think.

First time listening to them. I'm bit behind the times, eh? ADD's right about them being HOF clones, but since HOF are fucking incredible, I don't see it as a bad thing.

Wow. Count me as fucking shocked, the new In Flames album is actually really goddamned good. They just had to cast off the yoke of being "death metal". They put out a completely melodic metal album driven by hooks rather than half-assed detuned riffs and blew me away. Kudos!
