View Full Version : 2007: The Year in Film

God, what an awful year.

At the beginning of the year I was only excited to see Pirates 3 and Halloween, both of which were okay-but-not-great. Superbad was funny but still overhyped. 300 was metal, but not much of a movie.

I'm still gonna go to Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (which will probably be dumber than hell, but hopefully at least funny) and Sweeney Todd (which I'm hoping will save the year).

Anyone else feel the way I do?

It wasn't the year it promised to be, for sure. A lot of the big sequels turned out to suck.

My movie of the year without a doubt was 3:10 to Yuma.

I didn't get to see some of the others I particularly wanted to. Off the top of my head: The Nines, The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, 30 Days of Night, Day Watch, Tell No One, The Brave One, The Good Shepherd, Resident Evil Extinction, The Bourne Ultimatum.

Otherwise I saw Halloween (let down), Smokin' Aces (good fun), 28 Weeks Later (let down), The Simpsons Movie (let down), DeJa Vu (good).

I didn't set foot in a movie theater once this year.

The Good: 300 (I don't care that it has about zero merit as a film, it's enjoyable as fuck) and Superbad. Zodiac was good too.

The terrible: Sequels.

Just about everything else I've seen this year was bad or eh, too.

Edit: Simpsons Movie wasn't bad either.

30 Days of Night

It was absolutely horrible. Probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

No Country for Old Men was the only worthwhile movie I saw in theaters this year.

In order of release:

Hot Fuzz - 8/10
300 - 9/10
Grindhouse - 9/10
28 Weeks Later - 8/10
Spiderman 3 - 5/10
Superbad - 8/10
The Simpsons Movie - 7/10
Halloween - 6/10
American Gangster - 8/10
No Country for Old Men - 8/10

I think that's all I saw this year. If there's anymore I can think of, I'll add.

DethMaiden

Come to think of it, I think my favorite movie this year may have actually been Ratatouille. Disney + Pixar = Good always

EDIT: Goddamn! I didn't know No Country for Old Men was a Coen Bros. movie! Must. Go. See. Now.

I'll rate everything I saw this year in order of what I've seen
Hannibal Rising: 6/10
TMNT:6/10
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Phone For Theaters: 8/10
Hot Fuzz: 3/10
Spiderman 3: 4/10
Knocked Up: 0/10
The Simpsons Movie: 6/10
Halloween: 7/10

Movie of the year for me Aqua Teen

Forgot about Hot Fuzz. Added it to my list.

Nobody saw 3:10 To Yuma?

ravenheart

28 Weeks Later - 8/10

That movie sucked in more ways than I thought possible. Every single plot point (what small amount of plot there actually was) was based on someone doing something monumentally fucking stupid. Then it just played out like an ordinary survival movie. Nothing like as good as the first one.

zgodt
12-21-2007, 04:10 AM
Knocked Up: 0/10

Really?

ravenheart
12-21-2007, 04:30 AM
Really?

Yeah, I thought it was alright. Not the funniest thing I've ever seen, but certainly funnier than I was expecting, since I figured it would just be slapstick drivel.

Forgot about Hot Fuzz.

Ditto. I liked that one too, but not as much as Shaun of the Dead. And, I just watched Death Proof... It was pretty cool. Nowhere near touching Pulp Fiction, but then again, what is? I guess it's an unfair comparison, but I always tend to judge Tarantino's movies against that masterpiece.

I didn't see too many movies, but I'd say its a tie between American Gangster and Hot Fuzz.

For me, my favorite is a toss-up between Superbad (unbelievably funny) and The Simpsons Movie (yeah, I'm a fanboy). The Aqua Teen movie, Bourne Ultimatum, Ocean's 13, Hot Fuzz, and Breach were all great, too. I still need to see No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood, though, which are supposed to be two of the best movies to come out this year. I still haven't seen 300, Pirates 3 was boring and too long, and by far the worst I saw was Transformers, which was also one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I'm going to see I Am Legend today, which should be decent.

SirLardsAlot

LMAO Transformers, one of the worst movies you have ever seen, thats funny. Spider-Man 3 was complete shit didn't even watch the whole thing, the simpsons movie looked like ass, 300 was very enjoyable. 30 Days of Night was no big deal could have been alot better. Knocked Up was alright was expecting more from what my friends told me. Superbad was damn funny but still wanted more. I hope I Am Legend is good

Actually looks like a good movie. Usually I discredit anything you say about Depp movies, because of your fanboyeuristic tendencies, but the story seems kinda need for this one. Plus its Tim Burton.

But seriously. Does Johnny Depp's contract state that he must dress like a freak in all of his films?

If by "movie pass" you mean one of those AMC free ticket slips, then they won't accept it unless the movie you're going to see was out for 2 weeks already, my friend tried to use one last night, just a heads up.

I loved it. I'd say it's my top movie this year. Finally bought it last week, currently visiting a friend out of state and made him watch him this very night heheh.

As far as 2007, I have to say I wasn't let down by The Simpsons. Yeah, I'm a fan-boy, but when I saw the midnight showing with a bunch of friends and a theater full of people laughing their ass off, all was right in the world. Otherwise, I have to say I'm also a failure for enjoying the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but what else would you expect? I'm a failure. Superbad rocked. I thought Charlie Wilson's War was pretty okay, and I'm seriously drawing a blank on the rest of the movies I saw from '07, so maybe they weren't that great, or maybe I'm just really tired.

So while it may seem irrelevant now that we're halfway through February, but I think I'm ready to decide on a top 10 for 2007:

2. No Country for Old Men
3. Juno
4. There Will Be Blood
5. Superbad
6. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
7. The Bourne Ultimatum
8. 300
