But when I get home... I think it'll be time to fire up some World of Warcraft, or maybe some Command and Conquer 3 ;)

In the Space World of Super Paper Mario, you're being guided to the "Pure Heart" (basically the equivalent of a Star Piece in SMRPG) by this 5 year old alien kid. Suddenly, nature calls for this little bastard. So we find a porty potty on this asteroid except there's one problem, its occupied by some guy who's been stuck there for a 100 years cos there's no toilet paper. So basically I gotta run around the planet and find something for this asshole to wipe with, thus allowing the alien kid to go drop some bombs on Iraq. It's really more of the fact that there was this one wall in the level that kept pointing up that was annoying more than else. I couldn't jump to the top so I was wandering around for about 45 minutes. In the end I have to buy this treasure map for 100 coins for the guy to wipe with, although the guy ends up being a Pixl fairy. One of the more useless ones might I add.

Yeah, games really aren't what they used to be. :(

I remember reading a letter, I think it was to EGM, that was angry at all games trying to be as realistic as possible. I can see where they're coming from. I'm in the middle of like four RPGs right now.

At home on my wii, I'm in the middle of Super Mario RPG and the new Tales of Symphonia game (which probably sucks unless you happen to love the first one, which I do and like this game for). Out here in school I only play on emulators - on which I've been playing Final Fantasy VII and Pokemon Leafgreen significantly. This makes me feel like an absurd loser.

I've also been (not so much anymore now that I've beaten it and don't want to revisit it right away) this Wiiware game, World Of Goo. For $15 it was pretty incredible. Very creative, fun, and cute puzzle/physics game. :)

forget about crysis? blasphemy!

besides, after you buy an xbox, controllers, Live, games, etc. it gets to be pretty close to what you'd spend on a decent pc anyway. plus pc can do a million and one more things, and all the software, games, music, movies, etc on a pc are free. its also upgradable and you dont get red ring of death or scratched disks.

consoles ftl

powerslave_85
12-17-2008, 04:58 PM
XBox 360 Arcade: $200
20 GB harddrive (on eBay): $40
Extra controller: $50
4 of the games you listed ($50 each, although you can probably find them used for cheaper): $200
13 month Live membership: $50

Total: $540

Still well under what you'd be paying for a good PC.

And I don't get why you have upgrading listed as a plus. Console generations are usually around for quite a while, and PC games advance faster in terms of their system requirements. You might find yourself having to get a new video card twice over the period of time that someone is playing the same stuff on a console without having to do anything. And I think consoles have gotten advanced enough that PCs don't have such a huge advantage in the graphics department anymore.

Div
12-17-2008, 05:34 PM
well if youre comparing it to a pc the 360 elite is more on the same level, and thats $400, which means u dont need the 20gb harddrive then, so the total price would be $720.

i look at it as people need a computer anyway, which the average person might spend anywhere from 200-600 dollars on. so it makes more sense to just make your pc able to run games. Even if you get a good deal on a decent computer and then factor in the cost of the 360, or other console, it will be around $1000, which is what it costs to build a decent gaming pc.

i think upgrading is a plus because you can swap out certain parts instead of having to scrap the whole unit for a next gen console when it comes out. Some parts of a pc are a one time buy, cases - power supply - cd rom drives - harddrives - monitor/keyboard/mouse. So when it comes time to get a new pc its alot cheaper than the first time you bought it because you have alot of the parts already. You can also overclock your hardware on a pc to get more bang out of your parts. You could buy a Q6600 2.4ghz processor for $150 and overclock it to 3.0ghz and it will be able to handle most games for awhile to come so you wont need to buy a new one as soon. not to mention you can mod pc games to increase their replay value, and you dont have to pay for the new game content like you do on Live.

but to be fair the downside of using a PC for games is that you have to spend alot of time getting to learn all the technical information on how to build it and what parts will work with what other parts, etc. instead of a console which is good to go right out of the box with no hassle.

Majora's Mask.

As of right now, I haven't encountered the "freezing problem" that happened on the Gamecube Collector's edition, so that's good.

I've finally been able to put into words why this game is better than Ocarina of Time: Because it's basically a cinematic portrayal of any small town in America that happens to involve Link and some demon.

As opposed to a full-blown adventure game like Ocarina Of Time. Majora's Mask is a look at a town and the day to day problems being excerbated by a prankster. Usually in Zelda games once you conquer the dungeon, the spell is "lifted" from that specific area. While that does happen for each territory, if you actually kill Majora, if you go back and play it again, you'll see there are still people in woe and misery whose problems are unsolved even though the moon is gone. If you just go through all the dungeons and kill Majora, I'd say you've only played about 45% of the game. Where the game really unfolds is if you decide completing all the missions in the Bomber's Notebook. (Perhaps the suits at Nintendo should have called this game "the Bomber's Notebook instead of Majora's Mask) When you do, you are witness to character development ranging from hilarious (the bathroom mission) to heart-touching (Anju and Kafei).

And that is why Majora's Mask is a better game than Ocarina Of Time (other than the fact that Link To The Past did Ocarina better than Ocarina did.)

I see your point, but I feel Ocarina just played so smoothly and amazing, I feel it is a tad better. Ocarina flowed perfectly with me, the storyline was mindblowing as well as the gameplay. Of no offense to Majora's though, Majora is amazing, and it is only a hair behind in my opinion.

On Majora's though, one of the greatest things I love about it IS the Bomber's Notebook, and that allows for just a great "replayability" factor, if you will.

goddammit im glad i never played this game when it came out. the fact that they no longer make "old school" style shooter games anymore makes this such a great game to play now.

everything now a days is done in the slow paced CoD bullshit style. crouch around, aim down your sights, hide behind a wall for 5 seconds and magically heal up. we need more games where you can run sideways, jump, and shooting a rocket launcher all that the same time.

I loved Quake 4 and agree we need more games like it. Wolfenstein was cool but more like COD if anything. Personally I'm sick of online games where someone who puts in tons of hours is stronger than a newbie. Thats stupid. They already have an advantage by knowing where all the good weapons & vantage points are.

Playing Halo ODST now. The single player game is tough but fun. Acheivements are way cooler than any other Halo game and the regen factor has diminished to make it more realistic. No radar adn they brought back the Halo pistol. WIN! Maybe Game of the Year unless Bioshock 2 has something to say about it.

Interesting. Now all I need to do is buy a Gamecube controller from Ebay. And that is how the Classic works, but it's really akward, and the B button being where the A usually is feels really weird, and I end up rolling/slashing when I don't want to.

Random thoughts on the subject of controllers:
The Gamecube controller might be my favorite controller for overall use. Sure, other controllers work better, but that's because the setup varies in awesomeness from game-to-game, but the comfort of a gamecube controller is just the best overall. PS2 controllers are pretty similarly great but a little less comfortable. The original Xbox controller was pretty awful, I thought, but the 360 ones are pretty fun now, if a little less intuitive than their competitors. Also, the wii controls have got to be the least consistent controls of all time. Some games I've played on that are incredibly awkward to work with (most multiplatform games), and others handle incredibly smoothly and comfortably (Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, a few others) - I love that you don't have to have your hands held together like you do for every other controller.

edit: I don't like the classic controller much at all, if it wasn't apparent in the rest of this post. Gamecube is superior in almost every way :)

beat it on "brutal" difficulty the other day. overall excellent game, i wouldve liked the story to stretch out a little more, but still good. ozzy, lemmy and halford doing voices for the game was a nice touch too, too bad there was no maiden in it :(

i didnt realize until after i looked it up, but halford also did the voices for general lionwhyte (i wondered where they got someone to scream like that), and tim curry was doviculous. i heard they originally wanted dio to do his voice but couldnt get him or something. after playing it though i cant really picture dio voicing doviculous properly, he just doesnt sound evil enough.

I don't have a DS so that doesn't occur to me.

Meh, I used to be an "original 151 only!" elitist but now I'm more receptive the bigger cast.

I quit a few months ago due to lack of interest. I'll probably start playing again when the new expansion comes out though.

Tested out both Darkside Chronicles and No More Heroes. Darkside was kind of a let down, as I was somewhat hoping for the exact same thing as RE 4 instead of a rail shooter.

No More Heroes was...weird.

Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, Resident Evil 5.

I also started Dead Space, The Force Unleashed, Infamous, and Arkham Asylum, but I am mainly focusing on those main two. And I shall start Uncharted 2 once my HDMI cable comes in the mail (gotta save that one until I can actually get an HD picture on my HDTV :P )

That's fine for me. I'm a stat-whore when it comes to RPG's (Diablo 2, Dungeon Siege, thank God I don't play WoW or I'd be hooked) so I'm feverishly always searching for the next best gun.

No thanks.

There's two things keeping me from playing WoW:

85%: I used to co-own a Counter-Strike Source server with my friend. And it was fun, but then it's almost like I had to play every day to justify spending the money, and it sucked all the fun out of it. I'm afraid that's what would happen if I play WoW

15%: I get completely sucked in and I forget about my social life, my friends, etc.
