Was talking to a mate recently about how there are certain bands we feel compelled to go to see everytime there's a chance, regardless of whether they're playing the same tour (Setlist), or have a new album out or whatever.

So, who's everyone seen most, and how many times? For me:

McQueen - 7
Thunder - 7
Motorhead - 5
Dio - 4
W.A.S.P. - 4

Then obviously a whole bunch of 3s, 2s and 1s.

Tesla (5 times) (I'm not even a huge fan, but they're like my sister's favorite band, and they usually play close for fairly cheap, so I've just gone along)
Queensryche (4 times)
Seven Witches (4 times)
Edguy (3 times)

Also, it'll be my 3rd time for Maiden in March and my 3rd for Symphony X in April. Also, good chance it'll be 5th for Queensryche in February. Can't wait.

I also feel I should mention that even though I despise them, I've seen Into Eternity 4 times with a 5th on the way. They need to stop opening for bands I like.

I'd love to see Seven Witches. I hope they play Sweden Rock next year. I decided to drop all the 3s from my list, but I've see: Alice Cooper, Skid Row, Deep Purple, Saxon, Opeth, Cathedral and The Answer three times each.

I'll see Rose Hill Drive for the third time next week, and Symphony X, Alter Bridge, The Almighty and Kamelot for a third time each next year (maybe also a fourth for Kamelot). Hoping to see Thunder for the 8th time on Sunday, but not confirmed yet.

They're pretty much looked on as a local band around here. I'm not the biggest fan of them but they're very cool to see live. I'm in their DVD.

They're the only band I've seen more than twice, so far. But I do plan on seeing Queensryche a third time in Februray.

if getting to see all the major metal bands in their prime makes me old, then so be it. :D

btw, my first metal concert was 23 years ago last week. Dio w/ Dokken Nov. 18, 1984.

Everything after Hell Awaits is gay, amirite? :tp:

South of Heaven is the best Slayer album and Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss are tied for second. Sorry, but they didn't start sucking until 1994.

Hey...wait a minute! :eyes:

Seriously though, somehow I think alot more people remember Hell Awaits and Reign In Blood than say...I don't know...half the shit that's talked about on here, so to say Slayer didn't have a prime is just over the top ignorance.

People's opinions of bands are what they are... For instance I think Helloween was twice the band Motley Crue was (two random examples), but to say Crue's prime was less noticeable than Helloween's would be silly.

Since my first metal show in 2005, I've seen Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, and (unfortunately) Trivium four times each. Oh, hey, neat, never noticed that - three of those bands (Amon Amarth, Trivium, and CoB) WERE the aforementioned first metal show...

CoB will be 5 times next month, and Ensiferum should be 4x in November.

As far as touring bands go I've seen KISS 11 times, Maiden 11 times as well. I know I've seen Motorhead at least 6 times, Priest about 6 or 7. I'm sure I've Agnostic Front, Murphy's Law and Cro-Mags at least 20 times a piece. Then I am sad to say that the 2 bands I've probably have seen more than any other are The Casuaties (at least 40 times) and The N.Y Relix (at leat 40-50 times).

No, it was that show where only the lower halves of each of the members turned up. They'd had an accident on the highway.

Surgery was successfully performed after the show and each band member turned up complete for the next show on the tour. Minimal scarring too. It was a remarkable feat of medicine, really.

Opeth is my most times with five. Clutch and some other more local bands I've seen four times.

My biggest never-seens are Slayer, Metallica, and any bands or solo artists from or related acts to 1970s prog. Fuck. :(

Biggest never-seens for me, apart from the obvious like Zeppelin, Waylon Jennings and Hendrix, is probably... I don't know... Queen, Anthrax, Bruce Dickinson and Scorpions.

I've seen Maiden (2), Priest (2), Crue (2), GN'R, Purple (4), Ozzy, H&H (3), Aerosmith (2), AC/DC, Alice Cooper (4), Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Metallica (3), Slayer, Megadeth (3), KISS, Dream Theater (4), Queensryche (3), Slipknot (2), Bryan Adams (2 - that's right, fuck you), Bon Jovi, Alice In Chains (2), The Cult.

That's in terms of stature, though. Biggest never-seens for me personally would be: Children of Bodom, Corrosion of Conformity, Days of The New, Dark Angel, Kreator, Flotsam & Jetsam, Forsaken, Godsmack, Green Carnation, The Hoax, King's X, Richie Kotzen (rectifying in October), Yngwie Malmsteen, Molly Hatchet, Gary Moore, My Dying Bride, Axel Rudi Pell, Brainstorm (rectifying in September), Symphorce, The Quill, Rage Against The Machine, Savatage, Stevie Salas, MSG, Sixx:A.M., Spiritual Beggars, Ray Wilson/Stiltskin, Swallow The Sun (December), Pentagram, Brian Vander Ark, Venom, Witchery, Y&T, Rob Zombie.

And now won't ever see: Rainbow, Pantera, Reverend Bizarre, Slash's Snakepit (although maybe some stuff on Slash's solo tour?), Talisman, White Zombie.

I've seen Maiden 4 times (05, 06, 08, 09) so they win. Although I plan to triple that number on the '10/'11 tour. Saving up to see every east coast US and eastern Canada show in '10 (presumably this is when they'll do North America). And then, going by what Bruce has said from the stage, a couple south eastern US dates in '11 and hopefully Costa Rica and Equador (assuming they play those two countries again, if not I'll probably hit up Brazil).

Some runners up would be Megadeth 3 times, Sabbath 3 times (soon to be 4), Motorhead 2 times (soon to be 3).

Biggest never-seens for me are Rush, Ozzy, Dio, and Slayer when it comes to the legends. Personal never-seens include Blind Guardian, Agalloch, Immortal, Enslaved, and Saxon.

Yeah, that was a mistake I made listing the ones I did. My personal never-seen list that I'd like to take care of is as follows:

Amon Amarth, Arcade Fire, Atheist, Danzig, Explosions in the Sky, Helloween, Immortal, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, King Diamond, Metallica (I'm blowing off this tour even though it stops in Indianapolis because I hate Lamb of God that fucking much), My Dying Bride, Peter Gabriel, Pig Destroyer, Pink Floyd (okay, so David Gilmour or Roger Waters solo :(), Savatage (okay, so Circle II Circle or Jon Oliva's Pain :(), Slayer (I've blown a dozen chances because I've hated the openers/setlists, so who knows when this will happen), Slough Feg, Yes (only if Jon Anderson is singing, that's why I skipped last time)

My must-see list is as follows:

Amon Amarth, Blind Guardian, Collin Raye (:eyes:), Darkest Hour, Dio, Grim Reaper (prefer a reunion, but I guess the Steve Grimmett + Random Guys Band willl work), Iced Earth, Immortal, Immortal Technique, Kreator, Meatloaf, Paradise Lost, Prince, and Shadows Fall.

Wow, it's been almost 2 years since I did this. The leaders haven't really changed, but the numbers have gone up. I don' bother listing anyone I've seen less than 3 times, because there would be a shit-ton more.

Tesla (6 times)
Iron Maiden (4 times)
Symphony X (4 times)
Edguy (4 times)
Queensryche (4 times)
Seven Witches (3 times)

+Into Eternity (100 times), right?

+Into Eternity (100 times), right?

Hahaha, I think the actual number is six. I'll have to count...

-Hammerfall/Edguy (8/16/05)
-Stratovarius (9/20/05)
-Gamma Ray (5/1/06)
-Edguy (9/16/07)
-Symphony X (4/6/08)
-Iced Earth (9/24/08)

Yep, six. Which is far too many for a national touring band I don't like.

My memories of some of the early days of going to shows is a bit hazy (for various reasons...;)), but here is a guesstimate:

Depeche Mode - 4, maybe 5 (sorry "pure" metalheads, but I have diverse tastes, and a quite varied musical history...:D)
Dave Matthews - 3 (at least)
Metallica - 3 (at least)
Slayer - 3 (at least)
Death - 3
Pelican - 3
U2 - 2 (will be 3 next month)

...and lots of other memorable "two's", such as:
Isis
Tool
Meshuggah
Origin
Exodus
Pig Destroyer
M.O.D.
Spudmonsters
Keelhaul
Motorhead
Kylesa
Russian Circles

:D

To each their own, but just let me put it this way - metalheads enjoy a good spectacle, right?

Let me tell you that there are few spectacles on earth as big as a U2 show. It's right up there with Slayer or Metallica or even Tool in terms of intensity (although admittedly a whole different type of sound). Plus, the crowd really gets into it, too. The energy in the place is undeniable - palpable, even. It's really a rush. Good times.

Death - 3

Wow I'm old and would have to really think back. I know I've seen Slayer 8 times so off the top of my head I'd say them. 1st time was South of Heaven tour in a 500 person club with 700 people packed into it.

Wrathchild America wouldn't really count but I saw them 20+ times including Pantera opening for them twiice at Hammerjacks. Pantera or Rush would probably be 2nd with 6 or 7 times.

A buddy just burned me a studio version of Shannon Larkin (now in Godsmack) singing lead vocals with Wrathchild doing Slave to my Dick.

What memories that song brings back... I always thought it was a Wrathchild song until Terry Carter told me it was a Subhumans cover.

One of the best punk songs of all time! :horns:

Between The Buried and Me-5
Mastodon-4
Thy Will Be Done-4
Suicide Silence-4
Hatebreed-3
The Faceless-3
The Red Chord-3
Whitechapel-3
3 Inches Of Blood-3

A lot of bands are tied at 2 and Deftones/Dillinger Escape Plan will be joining that list in a couple of weeks.

I think the only band to adjust any significant numbers for me this year will be Saxon, who will move on to seven in June and tie with Motorhead and Cathedral as my second most seen bands.

Maiden will move on to three. A few others on to two. Overkill and Fozzy will hit four. Queensryche may hit six by the end of June.

I'm very much hoping to extend Cathedral by one or two more shows before they retire.

Therefore at the moment:

Thunder - 8
Motorhead - 7
Cathedral - 7
McQueen - 7
Saxon - 6 (7 in June)
Opeth - 6
W.A.S.P. - 6
Guns N' Roses - 5
Alice Cooper - 5
Dream Theater - 5
Alter Bridge - 5
Deep Purple - 4 (5 in November)
Heaven & Hell - 4 (only 3 with Dio though)
Bigelf - 4
Exodus - 4
Dio - 4
Queensryche - 4 (maybe 6 in June)
The Quireboys - 4
Sebastian Bach - 4

There're a whole bunch of 3s and even more 2s after that.

I've seen them twice, and they were incredible both times. They absolutely blew Dimmu away when I saw them the second time, I can't wait for the headlining tour.

I actually left after Enslaved only to find out a month later that Dimmu apparently fucked up big time during a song and all stopped and stared at each other like, "hey, what happened?". I've got nothing against Dimmu but that would be funny.

First two times were not by choice (well, not completely by choice)(Mayhem 09 and on the Trivium fall 09 tour). Third time was with JFAC in a club here, which was after I got into them and they were actually really good (or at least I enjoyed them). Then I saw them at Warped 2010, then on their headlining tour in March of this year, at Summer Slaughter here and now tonight.

My girlfriend and I went to the Summer Slaughter in NJ too, but we bailed before they came on.

^I typed that before I went, and I just got back about an hour ago. Again, they were meh.

I think people are lying about how many times they've seen Blackguard.

How many times are people saying they've seen Blackguard? I've seen them twice, opening for Nevermore and Deicide, I missed them the third time when they were opening for Hypocrisy and I showed up late.

Fortunately I've never seen them. I consider that a small victory.

I remember talking to some old schoolers at Ozzfest '05 that claimed to have seen Iron Maiden 50-something times through the years..... that always impressed the shit out of me

Those bands do seem to show up on every tour.

I've seen Blackguard twice and missed them once, Warbringer twice, Abigail Williams twice, Goatwhore once and Belphegor once (although VISA issues forced them to cancel the second time I was supposed to see them). It's hard to say who comes to Toronto the most. Probably Blackguard but they're from Montreal so it's not too far to travel.

The only ones I'd want to see more than once is Belphegor. Abigail Williams, Goatwhore and Blackguard I'd never see headline but if they're opening I'll catch them, and Warbringer make me second guess if I want to go to a show.

Fortunately I've never seen them. I consider that a small victory. This, except for one small technicality. I've actually seen the band, I just haven't seen them perform. They were sitting at their merch table at Summer Slaughter in 2009, but I arrived after they had played. Darn - I mean...win!

Russian Circles - 4
Sweet. Me too. Once per album. :fist:

Since 1977 seen Rush 61 timesUnless you started seing them when you were six, I think we finally found another person on here that's older than me.

As of right now it's a tie between Megadeth and Rob Zombie both of whom I've seen 3 times. The only other bands I've seen more then once are Exodus and Children of Bodom whom I've seen twice unless you want to count Zakk Wylde since I've seen him with both Ozzy and BLS. Every other band I've seen has just be once but I will be seeing Maiden for the second time.

Whitechapel x8 (With the exception of both the Summer Slaughters they were on, I think that they are actually pretty great live) (Nine after Mayhem)

Born of Osiris x6 (Possibly seven after Warped Tour)
Goatwhore x6 (Seven after Summer Slaughter)
Skeletonwitch x6
Blackguard x5 (You all know why)
Children of Bodom x5
Dying Fetus x5
Job for a Cowboy x5 (Mostly unintentionally) (Six after Summer Slaughter)
Eluveitie x4
The Faceless x4 (Five after Summer Slaughter)
Kataklysm x4
Lecherous Nocturne x4 (Same as Blackguard)
Vital Remains x4

Everything else is three or under.

4s for me are:

The Answer
Dio
Heaven & Hell (so, yes, I saw RJD 8 times in total. Suck it)
Exodus (rising to 5 this year)
Fozzy
Judas Priest (rising to 5 this year)
Joanne Shaw Taylor
Overkill (rising to 5 this year)
Marcus Bonfanti
The Quireboys
Sebastian Bach (rising to 5 this year)
Symphony X (rising to 5 this year)
Bigelf
Iced Earth

Iron Maiden is the only band not on the list that will definitely be before the end of the year. Saint Vitus might, depending on when they play at Sweden Rock.

By the end of this summer I'll have seen High on Fire 60+ times, but that's from touring, so I guess that's cheating. I've seen Naam probably 50+ times, also from a touring/roommates/friends perspective.

I write for magazines and newspapers, which leads to friendships with bands and sometimes they ask you to come out on the road. When I lived in Brooklyn I lived with one of the Naam guys so I was on the road with them a bunch and pretty much went to every show they did.

Shit, I really want to do something like that. I actually emailed BrooklynVegan about an internship, but they never e-mailed me back. I suppose I probably should've said something other than "I'm wondering what internships are available this summer."
