Nice nice.

Come on guys let's hear some more. I should throw in the new Ash Pool myself (that's some real twisted shit), the last 2 Darkthrone albums, Mayhem's "Ordo Ad Chao", Napalm Death's "Scum", any Toxic Holocaust album, Sodom's "M-16", Bongzilla's "Gateway", and pretty much any Weedeater album.

"Heavy" to me isn't fun, headbanging madness like a lot of the thrash you're mentioning though. It's an all-consuming, parasitic sludge monster that makes you feel crushed under its massive weight.

So Mouth of the Architect and Neurosis damn well qualify. :bouville:

We should get some Electric Wizard on here too, "Dopethrone". Acid Bath's "When The Kite String Pops", how bout both Carnivore albums, Corrupted's "El Mundo Frio", Asunder's "Works Will Come Undone", pretty much have to repeat Exodus and Converge and throw in "Tempo Of The Damned" and "Jane Doe" respectively, oh shit and fucking Hellhammer.

I wouldn't count MOTA personally, but I'd vouch for some Neurosis, any of their shit up to "A Sun That never Sets".

Dungeon - One Step Beyond. Oh wait, no Dungeon fans here. Well doubtful anyway... if there are, PM me now, we'll talk.

I also would like to say that early Savatage, despite being primitive in comparisson to the beauty and masterwork of their 90s material, really comes to mind here.
IE: Power of the Night, White Witch, City Beneath the Surface, Dungeons are Calling, 24 Hours Ago, etc.

Well i wanted to include one Maiden album and i thought that was the heaviest album they put out, at least in the 80s, but i do agree with you Maiden are not a heavy crunchy metal band

"Killers" and the self-titled are the only ones that spring to mind for me in a topic like this, but "Killers" just isn't nearly as soul-owning as the debut for me (even though it's fantastic in its own right).

The lack of Bathory in this thread is unacceptable, thus I sumbit everything through "Twilight Of The Gods". Looking at the first post I should've just gone and put all the High On Fire albums and included Venom's "Welcome To Hell" too.

Something just occured to me about Sabbath. I remember reading somewhere that they didn't start tuning down to C until Masters of Reality. So that means that songs like "Black Sabbath" and "Iron Man" in all their heavy glory are in standard tuning. You have to admit, its relatively easy to get a "heavy" sound when you have a tuning lower than standard, but to get heavy sounding riffs with standard or higher? That's an accomplishment.

Anyone else agree?

I completely agree, im a guitaritst myself and its very easy to get a heavy sound when your tuned down, but still sabbath may of been tuned down but the riffs still kicked ass. Oh by the way it wasnt exatclyC tuning, it was dropped a full step then down half a step again which is C sharp, also known as D flat

Yeah its gotta be a special kind of guitar cuz there's no way you could tune 3 and a half steps down on any normal guitar, regardless of how thick strings you had, there would just be way too much fretbuzz.

A bunch of songs on Evergrey's last album, Monday Morning Apocalypse, were in Drop A. One of the many things wrong with that album. So sad to mourn the loss of one of my favorite bands.
