Big iPod announcements today:
-Nanos will now have video capability
-80GB video will now be $250, and there will be a new 160GB version for $349.
-The biggest one, though, is the new touch-screen iPod, which is basically an iPhone without the phone part. It will have Wi-Fi capability, and will be $299 for the 8GB version, and $399 for 16GB.

They also bumped down the 6GB iPhone down to $399. I'm totally stoked about the 80GB video, because that's what I paid for my 20GB iPod (with no video) two years ago

Honestly, if I could, I'd much rather go back to the old 20 GB iPod without the fancy screen. At least those didn't require pouches because tocuhing the screen leaves finger prints.

I'll sell you mine for $250 :D I like the price of the new 80GB, and I think that size would last me a lifetime

At the rate my collection grows, I think by thirty I'll be saying how small 160 is

If any of you make it to 30, I would hope you're no longer prattling on about iPods (http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Shit_nobody_cares_about).

That was awesome. Macs should be at the top of the list.

I'd liking that size a lot too. 160GB is a good size for both my metal and small ripped DVD collection.

Is one of the new design features for these that it actually works?

Or maybe that it no longer forces you to let iTunes run your life?

Is everyone comfortable on the bandwagon?

I have had a 20 GB iPod for about a year and a half, and I love it. It's always worked well, been convenient, and iTunes is about as user friendly as it gets. So, unless you're a music purist complaining about sound quality of the mp3, I have no idea what you're talking about

You have an 18-month old iPod that still works? You're freakin' lucky! That'd be why you don't know what I'm talking about. You've not had a normal iPod experience!

Software user-frindliness is a non-issue. All it needs to do is be able to upload mp3s onto the player. It doesn't need to do anything else at all. I'm more than capable of organising my music myself, I don't need a monopolising piece of software to do it for me (apart from Windows ;)).

iPods are a classic example of people buying the popular item instead of the superior item. Most other big music players on the market are better products than iPod. But everyone buys what they've heard of, not what's best. I'm not saying you've personally done that, necessarily, but when you take into account that most people think iPod is the actual name of the device and don't realise it's just one company's version of it (in the same way everyone thinks a photocopier is called a Xerox Machine or a vacuum cleaner is called a Hoover), you can see that's certainly the main reason most people buy them, regardless of that fact that most others are better.

unless you're a music purist complaining about sound quality of the mp3

I do that in other situations, because mp3s are shit, but that's generally around the whole purchase of digital music issue. In terms of personal music players, they're fine, but not as a replacement for superior formats, or CDs.

weird, md888 bought a used 15 GB iPod around the same time I did and his worked well, although I think he bought a replacement battery, plus he lost it last winter... my brother also has a 15 GB iPod, that he bought new when it came out and its still chugging without any problems and he's never even had to buy a replacement battery

True, I bought it after hearing about it and doing little (ok, no) research (I'm lazy), but my brother had one at the time and it works fine and it actually is a very good product. It looks cool, performs superbly, and while there may be better products, I can't think of one complaint about the iPod so I don't really care.

The only thing that bugs me about iPodders is that they actually pay money for music on iTunes.

This is just planned obsolescence. Why pay for a new iPod when you just paid for the one that is still fully functional?

The thing is though, there's some really rare shit on iTunes. For instance: Boogie Down Productions: Criminal Minded is one of the hardest albums to find anywhere ever, yet there it is in the Music Store just waiting to be purchased.

Not to mention every Overkill album. :D

I just found Criminal Minded on bit torrent in 5 seconds :D

Most albums (physical copies) can be purchased online if you look around, but if all you want is Mp3's I don't see the point in paying for something you don't actually get to keep. I mean what if your harddrive fails? All that money goes right out the window.

HOOLIGAN! :fingers:

What's the difference between losing your hard drive and misplacing a CD? The money goes out the window the same. That's a bogus argument.

Well atleast with a CD you physically have something, with MP3's you just get kilobytes. I think Apple should atleast keep a record of what songs you purchased so if you ever lose them you can re-download at no charge.
