IRON MAIDEN's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"Filming of the supernatural horror thriller 'Chemical Wedding' is well underway. Based on an original screenplay by Bruce Dickinson, the film directed by Julian Doyle, veteran second unit director and editor of Terry Gilliam's 'Brazil', 'Time Bandits' and Monty Python's 'The Life of Brian'. Julian wrote and directed MAIDEN's partially animated promotional video 'Can I Play With Madness'.

"'Chemical Wedding' stars Simon Callow as a reincarnation of Aleister Crowley, dubbed 'the most evil man in Britain.'

"Crowley was a major Edwardian figure and a scandalous character. A Cambridge graduate, he became an infamous mystic and occult scholar and although he died in 1947, his books are still in print and he remains a major focus for the occult world. In the film, Crowley's spirit is re-animated by a superconductor mainframe, transforming the shy and stuttering Professor Haddo (Callow) into the charismatic but sexually depraved Crowley who wreaks havoc with the students and faculty of today's Cambridge campus. The cast will be rounded out with cameos from Dickinson and other Python regulars.

"The film should be released sometime in 2008 with Bruce supervising the soundtrack."

This gets a movie before Mindcrime? Yup, there's no God.

This has been in the planning for YEARS. Well before anyone ventured a Mindcrime idea. It's understandable it's getting made first.

Mindcrime is being done, though. Both parts.

At first I thought that said Simon Cowell as Crowley.

I think Bruce wrote the screenplay before the album came out, right?

Not really. Bruce has had a screenplay for a long time, but that doesn't mean anything was being done with it. Now, however, something is being done. Also, the Mindcrime screenplay has been done for several years, but it's in the same place as TCW was for a long time... waiting for somebody to take an interest in it.

Actually, there's only a screenplay for Mindcrime I. Not II. Personally, I'm not gonna be too sad if it never turns into something more then just a screenplay.

On the contrary. Things have been happening around the Chemical Wedding movie for a long time. It's just that people only ever take notice when the cast is announced. Various elements of the pre-production etc have been signed up and doing things for ages.

Starting to film isn't the first thing to be done. It's one of the last.

Yep, screenplay for Mindcrime one is done. That's how the idea for Mindcrime II even came about. It's from the extra material Geoff wrote while doing the Mindcrime 1 screenplay. The movie is therefore now going to be the whole thing. I and II.

Geoff's "shopping" it to studios at the moment. Not sure he's getting very far. Someone will pick it up. Someone always does.
