I see you! Also liking the Obituary shirt the guitarist is wearing! This really makes me want to see them next week...

Yeah, back when I couldn't stagedive for shit! That was a great show. Wish I could go back and relive it now that I love Trapped Under Ice and Terror so much.

I'll be finding out soon.

Transit last night was the shortest headline set I've seen and shortest concert I've been to by far. show started at 7:00pm, 4 bands, yet we were out by 9:20pm.

I got M83, Puscifer, and The Cure this Thanksgiving vacation, with the possibility of Gwar when I come back to school, and some other pop punk show my friend is going to.

Check out (II) by Toundra. Pretty diverse as far as sound goes. It's post-rocky and sludgy. Magreb, Koschei, and Byzantium are the best songs there. I haven't heard their self-titled.Mike Socrates from If These Trees Could Talk recommended this to me last week. Gotta check it out.

HA! I agree, but being a little buzzed always makes a show more enjoyable. At least IMO it does.

Not so buzzed that you end up wondering around Montreal for 2 hours after a show trying to find your hotel in 18 degree weather. That definately didn't happen to me in Febuary after a Deicide show :eyes:

Getting into Dark Tranquillity, Year Of No Light, Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, Norma Jean, and Moving Mountains for free (apart from Moving Mountains they're for interviews/work at shows). Paul McCartney, Rammstein, and Sabbath are the only expensive ones, and the rest I pay for with the funds I get from the articles I write for a Russian metal zine and what I get for translating for bands/agencies.

And of course, you know, selling the occasional US-only PS3 game to my classmates!

Good news (somewhat); The Misfits are coming here in March. Might go, depending on tour setlist/financial situation.

Bad news; the March Anthrax show (my first Anthrax show) is on the first day of a week-long trip available to students at my school, with options like Spain, Portugal, Finland, the UK, and France... and I think I'm going to stay here for Anthrax. I've missed them twice already, and while I may be passing up a week of being in a foreign country with friends, there's always next year, and I really want to see Anthrax. Damn it!

Anthrax is awesome live but I really think you're making the wrong decision here. Besides, just see if Anthrax plays in any of those countries while you're there.

These trips are soley educational; we stay in a hotel, and there's no personal time, and if there is, it's an hour that we spend in close proximity, not a night out at a metal concert. :(

If I skip this year's Discovery Week it won't be that bad - I've got 10th grade, 11th grade, and senior year to go again. It's always the same places as well, so even more reason not to grieve.

Wow... I'd much rather visit another country for a week than see Anthrax play a short set.

Eh, not with the kind of itinerary they put you through. Plus the show is billed as a 30th Anniversary set, so that might be a bit different than what you're talking about. Hopefully.

Well, I don't see why not. It's not like Danzig will come here, and if he did, he'd probably throw a fit about something minor and cancel the show.

If I skip this year's Discovery Week it won't be that bad - I've got 10th grade, 11th grade, and senior year to go again. It's always the same places as well, so even more reason not to grieve.

If it happens once a year and its the same exact trip, then go next year. You may run the risk of having another awesome show block your fun. There are always "strictly educational" trips that turn out to be a lot of fun. If its Anthrax's 30th anniversary tour, then you may get some awesome shit.

The Jerryfits will probably stick to their current set for too long. It's 37 songs, and 14 of them are off of the new album. I can't express how terrible and shitty the new album is, so I'd shoot myself before seeing it live. Yes, Danzig won't play anything from back in the day, but don't worry about it. You probably never went through a hardcore Misfits obsession since you have too many bands to focus on seeing live.

Eh, makes sense then. Anthrax is probably the better decision. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll pull out something awesome. But knowing Anthrax, probably not.

Now I'm really feeling mixed about it... seeing Anthrax might be the better decision seeing as how they're the last of the Big Four I have yet to see, they aren't getting any younger, and that the set might be special... but then again, I'd be one out of only a few who'd stay behind while the entire high school would be somewhere in Europe. I'm so fucking confused.

Next up for me is a double header on Sunday.

Damian Wilson playing a solo acoustic set in the middle of the afternoon.

Then Leprous as special guests to Amorphis in the evening. Also photographing the beginning of Amorphis's set, then going home.

Do those trips cost you anything or does the school pay for them?

 Of course they cost you! With hotel, plane, and other fees most of these trips come out to be somewhere from $1,400-$1,800. Obviously it'd be my parents paying, though...

Another logistical mindfuck is that they have a priority system - first the seniors get their pick (ordered by who handed in their sheets in first to last), then the 11th graders, then the 10th graders, and last of all, us. So if the one city I do want to visit gets filled up (London, in case you were wondering) I get stuck with some place I don't care about in the least, AND since it's mandatory for your parents to sign a box that says you will pay for the trip no matter which one you get picked for, my parents would have to blow $1,400-$1,800 on it. Which is pretty much the only leverage I have to convince my parents to not force me to go.

Well, sometimes I've had periods where I've felt that the whole concert-going experience got in the way of other things in my life, but now I just go see bands I'm super familiar with, so every show actually means something (as opposed to not knowing the band's catalog and just nodding your head to the music).

I enjoy myself at shows. I'm always there with friends and having a good time, whether it be just chilling with people the whole time watching the band, trying to get up front, or moshing. I don't go to shows because I have to, I go to shows because I WANT to.

My Dying Bride was brilliant (apart from the insane fangirl grinding me from behind throughout the whole show and screaming into my ear) but sorry, ravenheart, I still think Iced Earth is going to blow them out of the water. ;)

I will say this, however - Aaron is definitely the most passionate frontman I've ever seen live. He visibly loves to death what he does, and the audience feeds off of it. It's beautiful, to say the least.

Also, guards who try to sell picks/setlists/drumsticks they pick up off the floor/stage are assholes. Fuck you.

Possibly as many as 17 shows on the calendar for 2012 so far though :D

Oh well. Yeah I've never heard of the opening bands so I'll be checking them out. Apparently this band you're talking about, the drummer for them is the same drummer for Goatwhore so it should be interesting.

Nope, 5.99 mandatory, but that's not going to the band, its going to a charity, the band are taking the full cost of the gig themselves since its an anniversary show.

So Nachtmystium just announced that they'll be doing their last "local" show in Chicago on December 30th at the Cobra Lounge as they are relocating to the west coast (probably because of Von), but I will be back home during this time, so I am very pissed that I didn't get a chance to see them here. The venue is the most notorious in all of NYC at enforcing their age restrictions policy. The upstairs venue is a big dance club that is usually 18+, but then they have a basement venue that for some reason they labeled as 19+ and they do enforce it.
